……?

Where…?

…It's not so dark….

Warm….

Becoming vaguely conscious seemed like an insurmountable chore for Katou—sleep was easier.  He had no recollection of where he was or how he came to be there, nor did he care much.  But this was…different?  Yes, definitely strange…. No cold, hard pavement, no throbbing pain.  Just …comfortable.  I'm really comfy right now… I dunno why….  Don't matter…I guess… Katou's mind was still too lethargic to comprehend what the odd surrounds might allude.  Bit by miniscule bit, curiosity overcame the urge to drift off again, and he focused on the possibilities.

...Whoa… I think I'm in a bed…what a change….

Katou slowly concluded that he couldn't possibly be home, but was somewhere else entirely…hopefully far, far away…. There was an arm draped protectively over him, and he was close to someone….  Someone I know…?  Again, he was too sleepy to bother with discovering the answer.

Maybe I'm dreaming….

Lying still, Katou had decided it didn't particularly matter, and that he was probably better off asleep.  Just before the dreams took over, he felt the other stir, heard them yawn.  Katou guessed the person had turned onto their back and was now sitting up.  To his surprise, they leaned over and kissed his forehead gently.

……?

Katou felt the other rise carefully …almost as if they didn't want to wake me up… He felt a need to know exactly who would be so considerate, when the whole world treated him like nothing more than a disgusting insect, something that society was better off without.  Katou's eyes fluttered open halfway, and he looked toward the end of the bed.

…Kira…?

Kira was standing near the bedroom door, stretching and reaching for the door handle.  From Katou's angle, the sunlight creeping in through the blinds laced across Kira's back, illuminating his tall form slightly.  With a soft sigh and a smile twitching the corners of his mouth, Katou closed his eyes again.
