The Call
By: Shlee Verde
I stand on the edge of a great, green cliff,
Overlooking the vast expanse of endless water,
My bow gripped loosely in my slender hand.
The cool wind, smelling so strongly of pure salt,
Blows into my face and sweep back my long flaxen hair.
Suddenly, I hear it -
The Call.
It comes to me, as always, without warning,
A whisper on the wind.
A spell that pulls me -
Closer, closer
Towards my destiny.
Sometimes the call is sweet,
Succulent, Seductive.
An enticing song that soothes my mind
And ensnares my soul with its enchanting melody.
Yet other times it is strong,
Violent. Vicious.
A blade that severs my soul and rips my entire being into an infinite number of pieces,
Reducing my body into nothing, save an empty shell
But, still, it pulls me -
Closer, closer
Towards my destiny.
It is the call I cannot resist
As a result of the warning I would not heed,
It is the curse of my people, the failing of the Eldar.
And as such, I know that I will follow my ancestors to Valinor.
But I do not wish to go,
So much remains for me here
In Middle Earth.
And yet, the call pulls me -
Closer, closer
Towards my destiny.
As long as I remain here,
In this world that I love,
I shall hear the cry of the gull,
Calling me ever closer,
Closer.
Towards the Sea.
I gaer cana.. a nuvan dambeth.*
*The Sea calls..and I will answer (Sindarin)
A/N: i hope that i did that elfish right - it was my first time trying. i don't usually write poetry, but im in this creative writing class and i had to. so of course i wrote about lord of the rings. i hope this turned out okay. i don't think im ready to start writing the legolas fic i am planning, but if anyone is looking for anything really good try the works of cat, Ithilien, and Thundera Tiger - if you haven't yet. these authors have the best legolas/gimli friendship series i've ever read. also try "Elven Song" by Jocelyn that fic also places special emphasis on the friendship and is also one of the best fics ever - i really love it. theres also a great fic called "The Last of the Fellowship" by Kat Heiman. its very good and i am enjoying it immensely. well, that's all for now. love ya all and will love you more if you review.
