The One
By Gliterati
Pairing: Lorelai & Luke Rating: PG Summary: Late night revelations at the diner between Lorelai and Luke.
(Enter Lorelai. She sits down at the counter where Luke is counting money at the register.)
Lorelai: Need coffee. No games tonight.
Luke: This stuff will kill you.
Lorelai: My mother will kill me first.
Luke pours coffee.
Luke: Another bad encounter with the Gilmore clan?
Lorelai: Rory told her grandparents that she's going to Yale.
Luke: I bet they were thrilled.
Lorelai: There are no words to describe the joyous event.
Luke: They just rubbed it in your face, didn't they?
Lorelai: No. Not at all. They never said a word to me.
Luke: Then what's the problem?
Lorelai: I realized tonight how much I let them down.
Luke: You didn't-
Lorelai: No. I did. They had so many hopes and dreams for me. I was smart. I wasn't as smart as Rory, but I got good grades. I could have graduated with honors, and went to Yale. I could have been anything I wanted to be. As much as I hate to admit it, they provided a really good life for me.
Luke: But you weren't happy there.
Lorelai: Damn it, I wasn't. Even with all the benefits I had, I was still completely miserable. And then Chris came along. And I don't regret anything that happened between us. But he abandoned me. He abandoned me and Rory for his precious Sherry and Gigi.
Luke: Gigi?
Lorelai: Gigi. The new kid. Georgia.
Luke: Oh.
Lorelai: And now they're getting married. And they'll live happily ever after in middle class suburbia. And I'll still be single, living alone in an old house because my daughter is off battling the Ivy League!
Luke: You won't be alone forever. How are things going with you and that guy?
Lorelai: Alex. He's a great guy, but I know he's not 'the one'.
Luke: Have you met 'the one' yet?
Lorelai: I have.
Luke: Is Christopher 'the one'?
Lorelai: No. he's not.
Luke: Then who is?
Lorelai leans across the counter and places her lips upon Luke's.
Lorelai: You. You're the one.
A/N: Lame, I know. I needed to get over writer's block!
