Prologue
The sky has always been an object of fascination. And why shouldn't it? It's a vast valley full of celestial bodies that has the human race in awe, and it provides us a sense of security, wonder, and beauty. We learn more about what's out there just by studying the sky.
But it's mostly the sky's decorations that amaze us humans. The sun gives us warmth. The moon gives us beauty. The stars let us know we're not alone, rainbows give us faith. Clouds remind us that there's a good and bad side to everything, and comets tell us you need to treasure everything that's precious.
Yes, the sky and its gems will never fail to be a mystery. New questions about it will always be raised, and humans will always try to answer them. Once we do answer those questions, a new group of questions will arise, making us know more about the heavens - yet we will always feel we just don't know enough.
In the Digital World the sky is no different. The Digimon themselves worship the sky and it's treasures even more than we do. But they don't have the same technology as we do, so for them, the celestials will always remain a mystery.
What the Digimon did do however was make legends and myths about the sky and the sun, moon, etc. The Digimon talked about 'The Guardians of the Heavens', a group of humans in the real world that would come to the Digital World in case of unimaginable disaster in the Digital World. They said that each of the six Guardians would rule one of the sky's treasures and had a special quality that made them truly one in a million. Like, the ruler of the sun would always warm people up even when they're gloomy. Each Digimon dreamed and fantasised of being the Digimon assigned to a Guardian. This myth of the Guardians gave hope to the Digimon when things went wrong, even if it wasn't all that bad. All in all, this legend cheered all of the Digimon up. Well, almost all of them.
There were a few Digimon who didn't like the myth of the Guardians. They thought that the Guardians wouldn't bring good to the Digital World, but bad. Figures that the Digimon that believed this were bad themselves, but that's what they believed. They vowed to themselves if the Guardians of the Heavens were to ever enter the Digital World, they'd terminate them and the Digimon assigned to them. This shook some of the more optimistic Digimon, but in general the other Digimon just shook their heads in disgrace and prayed for the pathetic stubborn bastards.
Of course, even in the midst of terrible evil, the Guardians never came. The situation just wasn't bad enough, the elderly Digimon would say to the youngsters. Some of the optimists even started to believe there was no such thing as the Guardians of the Heavens, but most didn't lost hope.
And the ones that didn't lose hope were right, they were right all along. There is such a thing as the Guardians of the Heavens. They just weren't born yet.
