"Scars"
a murder by numbers fanfic by SchizoAuthoress

I looked at him. He stared back, demonic in the yellowish light streaming in from
the streetlight just outside the window. I wanted so badly to leave him there, but
in a way he was still too powerful. There was something about him that made me
love him, something that made me want to stay.

He smiled, triumphant. I could feel the places where he'd hit me, throbbing with
a slight, useless pain in time to my own heartbeat. He knew that I wasn't going
to leave. I needed him too much.

I paused though, before going back to his arms. Was this really what I wanted?
Was this the way things were supposed to be?

"Don't leave me," he crooned seductively, "I need you, you know I do." The same
old song as before...and this time, I knew he was lying.

"No," I whispered faintly.

He scowled darkly, and his face became even less human in the harsh light. He
hadn't quite caught the word. He commanded coldly, "Come here."

"No," I repeated louder, shaking my head to make my meaning clear. I picked up
my bag again, and he moved in a sudden, angry motion.

"You go out that door and I'll come after you. I'll kill you."

"You'd never get away with it." I replied bravely, turning away with my bag, turning
away to leave him for good. His hand grabbed my upper arm roughly, in a grip
that said he didn't care if he hurt me. I already knew that.

I saw the knife flash, a silver lightning bolt from the heavens. Then the world went
red and black with pain.

A hand held my wrist. The breath wheezed out of me as I tried with all my might
to speak. I couldn't. My fist closed slowly.

"She's still alive!" Someone exclaimed, but I could only hear them faintly.

But they were wrong.

Jessica Marie Hudson died that night, and my only inheiritance from her are these
ugly scars.

A/N: Hmm, there is a decided lack of Cassie-fics out there...and even though in all
honesty I hate Sandra Bullock, Cassie Mayweather is such an interesting character that
I couldn't resist this fic when my muse Sailor Hela presented it to me.
