The day after she turned seventeen, Winnie Foster ventured into the
wood in the search of the spring. She found it easily, under the tree with
the "T" carved into it. She sat there, by the spring, for an hour,
contemplating whether or not she should drink from it. Winnie remembered
what Angus Tuck had told about life, about how death is a part of life and
how you should
welcome it instead of fearing it. If she drank from the spring she would
live forever, with Jesse. But then again, she would never grow old. And
what if Jesse never came for her, what if she could never find him? For six
years he and the other Tucks would enter her thoughts, her dreams. His
evergreen eyes. Cautiously, she removed the round pebbles that guarded the
spring. She slowly bent down and drank. She expected it to taste different,
strange, magical even but it tasted like ordinary, everyday spring water.
Winnie took out a knife she stole from the kitchen and ran the blade hard
against the palm of her hand. Twice. Three times. No blood, not even a
mark, or pain. She is like the Tucks now, like Jesse. Immortal. She will be
seventeen for all of time.
That night, at dinner, Winnie looked at her parents in a different
light. They seemed small, child-like almost, fragile.
For weeks she would wait for a sign that Jesse would come for her. A
month after her birthday a letter came. It was from Jesse.
'My dear Winnie Foster, If you're wondering, it's me, Jesse Tuck. I hope you remember about us, but then again, how could you not. I also hope you remember what I told you: The minute you turn seventeen you have a drink from that spring, I come and get you, and we get hitched. That is if you'll marry me. Exactly one month form your birthday I'll wait for you at the spring, I'll be there all day. If you'll have me come with a bag packed. If you don't want to have a drink and join me I'll understand. I just want to see you again. Forever yours, Jesse Tuck'
Forever. Forever is a long, long time to be with someone. Without a second thought, Winnie packed her necessities into a small suit case. Thinking of her parents she wrote them a note, so they wouldn't worry and headed out the back door. Jesse was there, at the spring, just as he had said he would be. Winnie watched his for a moment. He hadn't changed in the six years that had passed by. He was exactly the same. Beautiful. Fidgeting, he paced back and forth, nervous. She smiled. "Jesse Tuck." She exclaimed with a bright smile. "Winnie Foster." He replied. Before she knew it he scooped her up into his arms, a squeal of delight escaped her body. Too soon he put her down, placing her carefully on the ground. "You're so beautiful." He said as he cupped her face. "Gosh, I've missed you." She whispered. "Winnie, I have to know. Are you coming with me?" He asked seriously. "I'm packed and ready to go." Winnie said happily as she showed him her bag. "You're coming with me? Did you drink the water?" "The day after my birthday." She said breathlessly. "We're going to be seventeen forever." "Forever." Jesse whispered as he gazed into Winnie's eyes. They found that their faces were growing closer together. Their lips met. In a hundred and ten years this was his first kiss. Their first kiss.
The End.
