Let Him Go
"Quatre… Quatre…" Duo tried calling his name, gently. This was the fifth time he had had to waken him from a nightmare in the same number of hours.
The blond haired Arabian woke with a cry. Duo pulled the covers up about his shivering, sweat covered form.
"Quatre… I think it's time to let him go. Just stop holding him to you." Duo said gently.
"I can't! I love him; I can't- I refuse- to forget him!" Quatre gritted out.
"Cat… think how much pain you're causing him. Let him rest. Leave him to his slumber. You don't have to forget him, just stop making him stay with you." Duo spoke slowly, gently trying to ease Quatre's intense pain. He was clinging to his dead lover, and Heero wouldn't leave his angel while he was still needed like that.
"Let him go." He repeated softly.
Quatre let himself cry, "But I still love him."
"And he still adores you. Just let him rest." Duo knew that repetition was the key to calming Quatre and reassuring him. "Even when he's gone, he still loves you. Don't let his death go to waste. He died for all of us- for the world. He'll always protect you and love you."
"Always?"
"Ceaselessly. Just please, for his sake, let him go…"
Quatre hesitated, then unclenched his space heart from Heero's consciousness, letting him go.
