Chapter One: The Wounded Beauty

**************************

"Choppers!"

Radar's frantic voice echoed throughout the 4077 compound. It was midnight in the camp, the sky a soft black with no diamond stars. Well, there was only one, a crystal glimmer of silver deep in the dark sky....

Hawkeye bolted upward in his uncomfortable army cot in an ice cold sweat, gasping loudly in ragged breaths. He could hear Trapper awaken from across the Swamp.

"Hawk? What is it?" he asked in a groggy groan.

Hawkeye put his face in his hands. "Wounded..." his voice was muffled. "Sorry about waking you so loudly..."

"It's no big deal" Trapper reassured him. "Really...."

Hawkeye sighed and pulled on his infamous bath robe. "Thanks, Trap. Well, I guess it's off to surgery again.... damn...."

"Clamp."

"Rib Spreader."

"Suction."

"Thanks."

Klinger shrugged. "Don't know. I told Gillian to check, but he never said anything."

Hawkeye growled. "Damn."

"Hey Trap, how's it going over there?" he inquired loudly across the room. Trapper shook his head. "Not looking so good over here, I got a punctured liver. What do you got?"

Hawkeye never answered. Beneath the blanket, lay a woman. Not a Korean woman, but an American. Her hair flowed in long, thick crimson locks, her hair also tinged with bright orange. It was spread out around her, making it look like a red halo. Strands of amber draped across her face. Her face....

Her eyes were gently closed, long, curly black eyelashes framing them. Her nose was small and perfectly-shaped. Her lips were slightly parted and electrical pink. A splash of freckles speckled her nose and pale porcelain cheeks. Suddenly, a flutter of her eyelids caught Hawk's silver blue eyes. Slowly, her shimmering, deep blue eyes opened.......
