Last Kiss

It is said of the elves of old

That they loved more deeply than could ever be imagined

That they grieved more deeply than could ever be imagined

That their only hope for life was to sail to Valinor

Where they would again see the one they loved

And be able to love again

"Haldir? Haldir, where are you? Haldir?" The girl cut off mid-call and giggled as the elf's strong hands softly caught her and covered her eyes.

"Guess who?" he asked her in that deep, mysterious voice which elf-maidens always found alluring . "Haldir, please! Father wishes to speak with you.

"Ah, your father. That does make a difference then, doesn't it?" He playfully curled a lock of her golden hair in his fingers. "And what if I would rather stay and talk with his daughter?"

"I don't think he wishes to speak to you about just anything, Haldir. I think you should go to him now." She turned around, a serious look on her face.

"Fine, then, if you wish it, Milady. Wait for me. I won't be long." And he walked off to talk with Celeborn, glancing back at the elf-maiden he loved.

"Sit down, Haldir. Please." Said Celeborn, himself sitting down to talk with the young elf.

"Silanenya said you wished to speak with me, milord," said Haldir.

"I hear that you two have become very.close, if I may so put it."

"Yes, Lord."

"How serious is it, may I ask?"

"I wish to marry your daughter." The statement caught Celeborn completely off-guard. He had been expecting silence, a declaration of love, but never something so serious. He chuckled to himself as he wondered how he could have thought the young elf sitting before him could be anything but what he was: noble and serious. Nothing less, nothing more. He turned around and smiled at the elf, something which rarely happened.

"Very well then. You have my blessing." He laughed as amazement shone in the young elf's eyes. "I expect you want to go tell Silanenya the news."

"Yes, Milord."

Celeborn laughed out loud when the elf hurried out of the room, forgetting to bow and tripping over his own feet in the process.

Two weeks later:

Silanenya knew something was wrong with her husband. He had been moody and thoughtful all day,

"What is wrong, Haldir?" she asked him quietly as he stared off into space.

"Silya, oh Silya. I am so sorry. Your father told me that Theoden is trapped at Helm's Deep. He is sending out elves to help them, and I am to lead them. We are leaving tonight. Forgive me for not telling you, Silya, but I did not know how to." He looked up and cupped her face in his hands. "I have to go get my men ready, but before I go, I want to tell you that I love you forever, and you will always have me. I must go now." And he kissed her, and walked off, glancing back at the elf that he loved.
Silanenya was alone when they told her. She did not cry, could not cry, as she was beyond grief. In less than a month, she sailed of to Valinor, and left behind only a memory. A memory and a story, the story of Haldir and Silanenya.

The End.
