To be a Slytherin
"Cunning folk that use any means to achieve their ends", "power-hungry" and of "great ambition".

Do you really think that that is all we are? Some of us may crave power and others may use any means to achieve their goals, but most of us are just as normal as anyone else.

When I look at my friends, I can assure you that we're as diverse as any other group.

For example, there's Pansy. She's somewhat snobbish but really nice when you get to know her.

Then there's Greg who's not exactly the cleverest person alive and Vince who probably knows more than the rest of us.

There's Millicent, who's so weird that most people try to avoid her.

And Tom. Tom's a quiet boy. Shy. He doesn't like to talk to people.

And then of course there's Draco. "The prince of Slytherin". His looks and manners scream perfection but inside he is so messed up that it is an achievement that he can still breath.

Me, you ask? There's not much to tell. I'm just your normal angry teen who wears black and listens to destructive Mugglebands.

So you see? We are just like everyone else.

Happy, sad, angry, hyper, lonely, judged.

When a wizard passes me in the street and sees my housebadge, they scowl or raise an eybrow. When I walk down towards Knockturn Alley people look at me and I can practically see their eyes spelling out, what a surprise. Another one turned bad.

I hate that.

They don't understand. They don't know what it means to come from a pureblood wizarding family; everyone from your family expects you to be a Slytherin and if you're not, you're in trouble.

And once in the "evil" house you immediatly become an outcast to anyone else.

You know Pansy? The girl I told you about earlier? She's in my year and everyone calls her annoying and pugfaced. Her mother died when she was five. You know? Little Pansy comes home from piano lessons and finds her mother on the floor, wrists slit.

And then there's Tom. Do you know why he's so quiet? He lost his parents to Voldemort. He killed them when Tom was a little baby. Tom celebrated his first birthday lying in a puddle of his mothers blood. The problem is that he remembers. You'd be quiet too if you'd see your parents death every bloody night.

Finally there's Draco. My best friend. He is only 16 and his life is already planned out for him. He will become a Death Eater and do whatever Voldemort tells him to. Do you think Draco wants to? Have you ever seen the scars that marr his chest and arms? No, I thought not. They are selfinflicted. "The prince of Slytherin"? Yeah, right.

If a Slytherin does something "wrong", the people punish us. If a Gryffindor does something "wrong" the people laugh and call them pranksters.

Do you think that's fair?

I don't.

Please just understand that Slytherins are people too. People with problems, people with pain and happieness.

Just think it through.
