Rory Gilmore rocked back on her heels expectantly, staring up at the Starbucks menu overhead. There was nothing that interested her, for the first time in her life.

"Miss?" the waiter asked from behind the counter.

"Oh!" Rory's gaze shot down. "Just a large cappuccino, caramel."

The waiter nodded and she turned to the nearest table, setting down her books and newspaper. She wanted to be asleep now, but of course, it wasn't possible.

Welcome to Yale and the story of my life she thought with annoyance.

She'd left Star's Hollow soon after she'd graduated from Chilton. Her grandparents were thrilled that she had decided to go to an Ivy League college though they would have much preferred Harvard. Of course, there were various reasons why she'd ended up here.

Suddenly something startled her, making her spin around in her seat. It was just a laugh, she noted, and returned to her reading of the Wall Street Journal and her cappuccino. A laugh, though it familiar. Must have been someone from Chilton she though without wanting to glance back.

"Mary, Mary," a low voice said in her ear.

Rory spun around, knowing one person would ever call her 'Mary'.

"What are you doing here," she asked after a second of shock.

Tristan-Tristan DuGrey-seated himself across from her. "Not quite the welcome I was expecting. But it work." he started.

"No no no. Seriously. What are you doing here? Why are you even talking to me?" Rory asked slowly, despite her rushed thoughts.

"Well, first of all, I'm going to college here. To Yale," Tristan said.

"Oh? And when was that recent development?" Rory asked, frustrated.

Tristan dismissed the question and continued. "Second of all, am I not supposed to?" he asked.

"You haven't since.since a long time ago. It upset me a lot." Rory mentally kicked herself over and over and over for what she'd just said.

"And why might that be?"

"Think about it and you might just figure it out." There was no answer this time.

Okay, so I know it was really short. But I expect to make the following a bit longer.what I'm thinking of doing is a series of four longer chapters over a week or so, then I take a break. And yes, this is going to be a trory with hopefully lots and lots of trory-goodness.(
