The Loves of Samwise Gamgee

Love. Now there was something Sam knew. If you asked him, he'd smile and say, 'love? Now that's something I know. Better than seeing an oliphaunt, better than destroying the ring, better than getting Mr Frodo back safe, better even than seeing the elves. Yes, that's love.'

Sam of course knew many types of love. The love he'd had for his family all his life. The anger and sorrow he'd felt whilst looking in the Lady Galadriel's mirror and seeing his father, turned out of Bagshot Row and alone; and the lust for revenge.

Rose Cotton. She was the lucky hobbit who Sam fell in love with. The thought of her kept him going through that cold, cold journey into despair, and when he returned he married her. None could dispute how much he loved her: he had thirteen kids her, after all.

But the love that shone brightest of them all was the love he had for Frodo Baggins, the ringbearer. His had been the quest to take the ring to Mount Doom and destroy it, and he had done so, with the help of the fellowship and Gollum. Seeing Frodo nearly wasting away because of his burden nearly killed Sam, physically as well. His love for Frodo had led to him giving Frodo Sam's share of the food and water as well as his own, but it was a deed that Sam never regretted; not once. None could imagine the gladness in his heart in the fields of Cormallen when Frodo was safe and well. The only anger he felt was towards Gollum, Slinker as he called him, who had hunted them and at the last moment bit the ring finger from poor Frodo's hand.

Even now, sitting in front of the fire, chewing on his pipe, Sam still looks youthful because of the love in his heart, love for special people that will never change or tarnish with age.

Yes, ok, that was strange. I wrote that a couple of weeks ago. I'd been thinking about Sam on the bus home, and I just wrote this as soon as I got home. Strange, huh? Please review, because I do like to know what people think of my strange bits of random writing.
