Takedown

Chapter 1

I stood there, looking at what used to be the Credit Dauphine Building. It was now under CIA control - I think after they took care of everything, they were going to turn it into a CIA training facility. How ironic. I sank down on a nearby bench; even now, I could barely believe it.

I felt someone slide onto the bench beside me. Even without looking, I could tell it was Vaughn. He put his arm around me, and I leaned against his shoulder.

*Flashback*

Weiss stormed into Vaughn's office and slammed the door. Vaughn turned around, and seeing Weiss' expression, raised his eyebrows, asking, 'What?'

'Either we are really stupid, or Derevko's really smart.' Weiss groaned.

Vaughn rolled his eyes. 'I'll take the second choice. What is it?'

'She gave us a way to take apart the alliance-'

'Good!'

'And it is so stupidly simple it's stupid!'

'Is stupid your new favorite word?' Vaughn cleared his papers off a chair and motioned for Weiss to sit. 'What is it?' he asked again.

Weiss sat. 'Put a tracker on Sloane, and when he goes to an Alliance meeting, surround them.' said Weiss grumpily.

Vaughn looked stunned. ' Exactly.' Weiss snorted. 'But where could we get a tracker that would bypass Alliance security?'

After a moment, a smile started to grow across Vaughn's face. The smile then grew into a grin. 'We don't,' he said, starting to chuckle. 'Do you remember how Sloane tracked Sark?'

Now Weiss started to smile also. 'We use that on him,' chuckled Weiss. 'God, I can't wait to see that bastards face when he finds out!'

Suddenly Vaughn became serious. 'But how do we get it to him?' he asked, realizing the answer as soon as he had finished asking the question.

Sure enough, Weiss looked at him, and replied apologetically, 'Sydney.'

*End Flashback*

I stood up, and Vaughn followed me back to my car. He took the keys from me as we got closer. He opened the passenger door for me, and I slowly got in. We drove to my house in silence. As he pulled into my driveway, I smiled remorsefully.

"Guess we never will make it to that hockey game, huh?"

He leaned over and kissed me lightly on the cheek. "You never know," he said, stepping out. As he closed the door, all I could do was watch, even with the knowledge that it might be years before I would ever see him again.
