AUTHOR'S NOTE: All journal entries that appear throughout this story, unless otherwise noted, are written in the point of view of Jason Deacon, the main protagonist of this story. This story takes place roughly two weeks after the ending of Resident Evil 3 - Nemesis and before Resident Evil - Code Veronica occurs.

It's been two weeks since the destruction of Raccoon City at the hands of the United States government. The last remnants of the T-Virus' effects have literally been wiped off the face of the earth. Despite Umbrella Inc.'s best attempts at eliminating all witnesses to their biological experimentation, there are a handful of survivors of the Spencer Estate and Raccoon City incidents.

Rebecca Chambers - former medic of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team. After surviving the "mansion incident", several rumors arose as to her whereabouts. One stated that she had travelled to Europe with Chris Redfield and Barry Burton, yet another stated she stayed in Raccoon City with Jill Valentine. These rumors are pure speculation, and her precise location is unknown.

Chris Redfield - former marksman of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team. After surviving the "mansion incident", he attempted to open a formal investigation against Umbrella, which was summarily sabotaged by Chief Brian Irons. After having no luck convincing the F.B.I. to begin an investigation quick enough, he left for Europe with Barry Burton to begin his own investigation.

Barry Burton - former weapons specialist of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team. After the "mansion incident", he left for Europe with Chris Redfield to aid in his investigation. At some point, he returned to Raccoon City and helped Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira escape. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Jill Valentine - former machine expert of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team. After escaping Raccoon City with Carlos Oliveira before it's destruction, Jill went out in search of Chris Redfield, another survivor of the "mansion incident", in order to bring down Umbrella for good. Finding one of Chris' hideouts thoroughly thrashed, she vowed to continue searching for him.

Carlos Oliveira - surviving member of the U.B.C.S. After escaping the destruction of Raccoon City with Jill Valentine, he has disappeared, and hasn't been heard from since.

Claire Redfield - sister of Chris Redfield. After escaping Raccoon City with Leon S. Kennedy, she traveled to Europe in search of her brother. Her whereabouts at this time are unknown.

Sherry Birkin - daughter of William Birkin, head researcher for Umbrella's Raccoon City facility. After escaping Raccoon City with Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, she was apprehended by people working for Albert Wesker. Her current whereabouts are unknown.

Leon S. Kennedy - member of the Raccoon City Police Department. After surviving the destruction of Raccoon city, he accepted an offer from the N.P.D.C., an anti-Umbrella organization, and disappeared. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Albert Wesker - former captain of S.T.A.R.S., and Alpha team mission leader. After faking his own death by injecting himself with an experimental virus, the T-2 virus, created by William Birkin, Wesker turned on Umbrella and sold his services to H.C.F., one of Umbrella's leading competitors. His current whereabouts are unknown, though he is believed to have possession of both Sherry Birkin and a sample of the G-Virus, the last project William Birkin completed before his death.

Unfortunately, Umbrella decided not to let the destruction of Raccoon City deter them. Several high-ranking executives within the corporation decided to perform a field test of the NE-T virus, an experimental virus purported to create a supremely powerful breed B.O.W. that can be controlled through a microchip implanted in the upper spinal chord while in observation. All that remains is to gather combat data on their newest weapon of destruction...the nightmare is not over yet.

Thursday, October 15, 1998 - Another uneventful birthday has come and gone. I'm starting to wonder if anything exciting will ever happen in this town. There was an envelope for me in the mail this morning. It says something about being part of a test group for a new interactive game created by some corporation called Umbrella. I wasn't very interested...until I saw the last paragraph. They'd pay me $2000 just to be a test subject. That's all I needed to know. After checking in with the parentals, I made my way to one of their corporate offices. Now, I'm on my way to their testing facilities. There's just one thing that bothers me: what did they mean when the contract said, "Be prepared..."?
