Moon's Light

Disclaimer: I'm only saying this once, I do not, nor will I ever, own Inuyasha or any of the characters from the series or books. Now that I've gotten that out I'm gonna go cry…*sigh*.

Also I do not own any songs quoted in this story.

Summary: Kagome Higurashi is considered an average miko, little do they know she is so much more. She is the light sent to this world by the Kami themselves to rid it of the evil that lurks in the dark but even Kagome has no idea of the power that sits dormant within her. Through Kagome's journey she will make new friends, find unexpected love, and new enemies. Will her light be enough to destroy the dark?

AN: Hello everyone, this is my first fanfic. This is a SessxKag pairing. Also if you have strong feelings for Kikyo and Inuyasha this story may not be for you, they will be secondary "bad guys' '. Also koga goes rogue too! The rating is M for a reason, there will be lime, lemon and lots of citrus, so viewer discretion is advised, I will mark to warn you when it's coming. On another note my grammar isn't the best, my apologies. If you do not know what the Japanese word is or how to pronounce a name look at the bottom where I have made a key. Anywho, this is gonna be a long story so sit tight and enjoy!

Edit note: Shippo belongs to Sango and miroku in this story, I want them to have him so it's different. If you don't like it, I don't care :)

Prologue

Kagome Higurashi was a normal fifteen year old girl until one day when she was dragged through her old family well into an unimaginable world in the past, 500 years to be exact. Finding herself no longer in Tokyo, but Feudal Japan, Kagome learns she is a miko in a world where demons, witches, sorcerers, and all sorts of creatures exist. As her journey to collect the jewel shards begins, she finds herself six months into this insane adventure with only a few shards, but five new friends, Sango, Miroku, Kirara, Shippo, Inuyasha and herself. They set off on their journey to find all of the shards to complete the jewel and defeat Naraku, the most evil man Kagome has ever met. Little did she know, this was the very beginning of her destiny for she was to face far greater evils, learn she was blessed by Kami, and find a soul mate she could have never dreamed of.

Chapter 1

SIT! The forest shook with the sound of Kagome's ire, birds flying away quickly at the disturbance.

"INUYASHA! We are stopping and that's that! We have been walking all day without any breaks! It's blisteringly hot and we can't take it anymore!" Kagome screamed, hoping she would hurt his ears in the process.

Turning to the others in her group, she gestured toward a big tree just off the path they were walking on. "Come on guys, let's set up camp under that tree. Shippo, do you think you can find a stream and get some water?" Kagome asked sweetly, taking a complete 180 degree turn in attitude. "Sure kagome!" Shippo said taking the water bottles and jug for cooking from her and scurrying off in the direction he heard running water.

The rest of the group set about making camp, Miroku went to collect some firewood, Sango took Kirara to hunt and Kagome set about unpacking her bag of the necessary items for the evening.

The subjugation spell finally wearing off, Inuyasha crawled out of his personal crater "feh'd" and mumbled about weak humans then jumped into the closest tree to sulk.

Looking at the sky and the setting sun, Kagome thought about the last few months. She couldn't believe this was her life now. She used to be a normal girl, whatever that meant, but now everything was different. Kagome always knew she was a little different but she had no idea how much. Looking down at herself she thought of how much she'd grown in the past months. She no longer wore her uniform, it was just too expensive to keep replacing. Now she donned traditional Miko garbs that Keade graciously gave her, except these had green hakamas instead of red. She did not want to look too much like her rival. She kept her hair the same for that reason as well and chose sandals of this era for more practical use. Keade and Miroku have been teaching her to hone her miko abilities as well as meditation, barriers, herbal medicine, and the basics. Yes, Kagome is a very mature girl for her age and very different than she used to be, some would say she was unrecognizable.

Hearing Shippo came back with the water, she set a pan to boil on the wood Miroku found. Looking in her bag, she found some ramen and tea to go with whatever Sango caught. Setting about making the tea and ramen she hummed softly to herself while she worked. "Lady Kagome, may I see one of those scrolls you call books? I would like to educate myself if not look at the drawings while we wait for Sango and dinner to cook." "Sure Miroku! But the "drawings " in my books aren't by hand, they were printed by machines that.. well, they are these things that kind of scan a drawing onto paper so they can be mass produced." Kagome explained enthusiastically, while digging through her bag for the book about birds. "Your future things never cease to amaze me Kagome." Miroku said in wonderment as he took the book from Kagome that had a beautiful drawing of a large white bird that looked to be bald on the cover.

While Miroku was busy with his book, Kagome turned to Shippo who was occupying himself by chasing something small through the grass. Finally catching it Kagome asked, "What do you have there Shippo?" "It's a bug! But I don't know what kind." Shippo said, holding said bug between his paws. "Bring it here Shippo, I will take a look and see if I know" Miroku spoke, setting his book down in his lap. Shippo happily brought his bug to Miroku and crawled in his lap to show him.

"Ah, yes that is a praying mantis," said the monk "See how his arms bend and his claws come together? It looks like he is praying, thus the reason for his name." Kagome crawled over to get a better look while Shippo poked it with his free hand. "He prays like you papa!" yelled Shippo, excited he found such an interesting creature.

The bug took that moment to decide it didn't wish to be poked or held any longer and flew away making Shippo pout. "Be not upset Shippo, he is a free spirit and cannot live trapped in the hands of a child forever." Miroku explained while patting the kit's head he thought so fondly of.

Kagome watched the scene with yearning and happiness in her eyes. Sango and Miroku had unofficially claimed Shippo as their own. The poor kit was an orphan and too small to be able to take care of himself. Only recently Shippo had taken to calling them papa and mama and anyone could see clearly how much they cared for each other. Sango and Miroku no longer hid their feelings for one another. They both vowed to get married after the defeat of Naraku and start adding to their family.

Kagome couldn't wait to have that, she knew she was still very young but women her age were getting married and starting families in this era and she wanted that deeply. Sighing, Kagome turned to look at the trees to her right where Sango and Kirara came through holding two rabbits. "I know it is not much but it is all I could find in this heat" Sango said handing them to Kagome and plopping down next to Miroku and taking a long pull from her water bottle, she looked exhausted like the rest of them.

Kagome made quick work of cleaning, slicing and skewering the meat to cook by the fire. She giggled to herself while making the tea and remembering how skittish and timid she was the first time she prepared an animal. Now it was second nature because this was a time when a meat market was not a luxury she had at her disposal.

During supper Inuyasha was distant and quiet until the ramen was ready when he selfishly took half of what was made, even after being chastised for it. While the girls were cleaning up their evening meal, Miroku offered to wash the dishes. As he left for the nearby creek, Shippo leaped after him to help. Kagome gathered her supplies for a bath making sure to take her bow and quiver and turned to the half demon, again perched in a tree, "Inuyasha, is there a hot spring near"? He didn't look at her or even acknowledged she was there so she turned to Kirara and asked the same question. Kirara mewed and pointed with her paw in the opposite direction that the other two males of the group went. Turning to Sango, Kagome asked if she wanted to join her. Agreeing with the young woman, Sango gathered her things and followed after her companion and the miko.

Kirara led them about a half mile from camp when they finally came upon a beautiful natural hot spring. The girls looked at each other with a big grin and began to undress. Kirara found a rock near the spring and made herself comfortable while she waited. Grabbing her shampoo, body soap, and washcloth, Kagome waded in the warm water and set her things on a flat rock within reach. Submerging her body under water completely, she came back up and leaned against the back of the spring and took in the view before her. The spring was large, it could easily hold at least 10 people. The back half was surrounded by big rocks that had a steady stream pouring into the water, the rocks had soft moss covering them and the ones in the water were smooth to the touch. Sitting on a natural bench in the water Kagome sighed and grabbed her coconut scented shampoo.

"Is something the matter Kagome?" Sango asked softly, taking the bottle the girl next to her offered and pouring a small portion into her hand. " It's nothing, just irritated with Inuyasha, he keeps lying to me and I think that he knows I know." Kagome explained sadly, staring off into the trees not really seeing them as she absent mindedly massaged the sweet smelling soap into her hair. Coconut was Kagome's favorite. "Has he been sneaking off again?" the Taijiya asked. "Yes'' Kagome said quickly and sighed again. She realized a few days ago, after yet another fight, that she didn't love Inuyasha, he was only a crush teenage girls get on those bad boys that aren't good for a long term relationship. "Do you know where he goes?" Sango asked. "I'm not sure," the miko lied, looking away from the girl she saw as a sister. She just couldn't bring herself to tell Sango the truth, she didn't want the taija to hate the hanyou. "Anyway, let's talk about you, how's things going with Miroku?" Kagome asked, making sure she had a convincing smile on her face. Blushing, Sango looked away, effectively forgetting the previous conversation. The girls chatted about this and that, mostly boys, and what they wanted in a husband as they finished their bath and relaxed for a bit. Sango, deciding she was clean and wrinkly enough, pulled herself from the warm water and dried off with one of Kagome's fluffy towels and got dressed in her pajamas gifted to her by her dear futuristic friend. "Are you coming?" Sango asked, looking at the girl who hadn't moved to get out. "I think I'll stay a little longer. I remember how we got here so you can go ahead." Kagome said, waving her hand up and down and smiling. "Want me to leave Kirara here with you?" " No thanks'' said the miko "I've got my bow and I'll scream if something is wrong." "Okay, if you're sure," said Sango with a concerned look. Turning away she started to leave and Kagome watched Kirara get up and follow.

Now alone, Kagome sat and thought of her "relationship" with Inuyasha. 'He isn't right for you girl, move on!' She knew her "inner Kagome" was right, she couldn't be with a two timer especially one who treated her like dirt! But it would be hard to get over her first crush or so she thought. He had saved her life many times and protected her, for the most part. He certainly was making it easier and easier to get over with his attitude of late. She thought she was in love but knew now she wasn't. Wrapping her arms around bent knees the miko said aloud, "But still, I may not love Inuyasha, It's just...life here can be lonely. I know I could never be with a human male, they're just too different, if only I could meet a demon that would .." stopping mid sentence feeling like someone was watching her she looked over her shoulder and a scream froze in her throat, there in the tree lines was a pair of golden eyes staring right at her.
