Title: Ascend or Descend
Summary: Willow considers the different paths she could choose.
Spoilers: Season 6 if that's still considered a spoiler and a few tiny spoilers (names and places etc) from season 7.
Disclaimers: I own nothing and have no connections to the show Buffy The Vampire Slayer and therefore make no profit from this fanfiction. The charaters belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy etc.
Feedback: Please. Its good to know what people think of my writing. Thanks.
Authors Note: This is my first Buffy Fic. I wrote it shortly after seeing the season 7 season opener and its just been sitting in my file since then so I thought I'd do something with it. I do realise the titles awful so it may change.
She could almost hear it call to her, feel its icy hands grasping at her clothes, hair and deeper than that. Its pull beckoned her very essence and its cries sounded so inviting, it would be so easy just to let herself sink back into it and then there would be no pain or guilt. She wouldn't have to see the bloodied faces of her loved ones everywhere she looked.
She could feel the blackness rise up as she felt herself descend back down into it as she let it begin to engulf her bit by tiny bit.
"Willow?" A soft English accent spoke her name.
The red heads eyes snapped open and the dark inside of her fled so to remain undetected. Before her crouched a young woman, lines had begun to form around the woman's eyes declaring her to be older than Willow but still young and fresh.
Willow found it unnerving that this woman had be able to approach her without arousing her attention, not since she had given herself over to the dark magic's had anyone been able to creep up on her. She could sense an approaching persons essence a mile off now, especially when they possessed power as the woman before
her did.
"Willow, what are you doing out here?" The woman took a tighter hold on the large black umbrella handle as a strong gust of wind threatened to wrench it free of her grip.
"I needed to be alone."
"Out in the rain?"
For the first time since she had stumbled, gasping for breath and trying to keep the swirl of emotions inside of her down, across the fields that surrounded the covens manor house she took in the weather conditions. Rain fell unrelenting from the darkened skies and an occasional clap of thunder would resound among the hilly fields.
"Mr. Giles was worried for your safety."
"Don't you mean he was worried for the worlds safety." Willow spoke the words as more of a statement than a question. She heard the pause in the air before Althenea opened her mouth to speak again.
"No"
Willow brought her gaze up to Althenea's; she could hear the lie in the woman's voice.
"Well yes but can you really blame him?" Althenea amended her answer.
Willow shook her head and strands of her wet red hair matted themselves to her pale cheeks, she hoped that the rivers of rain that coursed down her face hid the few stray tears that managed to force themselves out from behind her eyes.
Willow saw Althenea draw herself up to her feet and pull her blazing red duffel coat closer around her plump body.
"Now will you come inside or shall I tell Mr. Giles that he must come out into the rain and rescue you himself?"
Althenea's words were rewarded by a small smile from the red head, a smile that didn't reach her eyes but it was a start, a start that soothed Althenea's worry.
Willow pulled herself up to her feet and pushed the dripping hair from her face resigning herself to walking a few steps behind Althenea as she pondered a thought.
'If Althenea had been a few second later in finding me then would the Willow Giles knew and loved still have been there to rescue.'
