She stared into the distance, and watched as the entire world began to crumble beneath her feet, a sad smile rippling across her face. "I'm alive," she murmured to herself, as a tear trickled down her long, aged face. She watched as the blood red moon began to set for the last time, throwing out a net of illumination to drag down the glowing stars with it to its grave. The ocean waves crashed against the cliffs that deteriorated into its watery depths, spraying her with a mist from the nearby sea. The clouds rumbled in slowly, warning her that a rain was coming, a rain to wash away all the sadness and all of the heartache in this world. She stood majestically, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she realized she would not be alone for too long. The Earth moaned in agony as its skin was ruptured from the earthquakes that abounded, but she laughed on, calling out to the eagle that soared above her. "The mountains are dying my friend, come nest with me!" The eagle simply shook his proud head, and flew on, leaving her behind. Then she spotted the lion below, passing through an abandoned city. "Come with me, my feline friend, where you can roam with the freedom of your will!" The lion shook his head like the eagle, and moved on, leaving her to stare at a dusty fountain. Slowly, she recoiled into the background, feeling her age. She crossed into the forest that stood behind her, and with a small glance back at the changing world, she realized that she was alone, but alive. She smiled proudly and continued forward, her shoulders aching with age and wisdom. This world was different now, no place for her to be a part of, this was man's world. And with a giant gallop, she retreated into the woods, which in turn, disappeared into the sky for no one to see again. They would be her home, and hers alone to watch over. No one else could see the pleasantry that her forest provided, and to this day, no human has seen it. Both hide in the depths of the greatest shadow, ever-growing in the back of man's mind. If he ever finds it, he will find her forest along with her. Though she may stand old and worn, he will watch as she sparkles in magnificence, for she's the last unicorn. "I'm alive! I'm alive!" she will shout, "Join me, my friend, and live forever!"
