FEAST OF THE DAMNED

by CindyR

Drink deep Lethe's harsh, salty waters.
Drink deep the tears of the forgotten.

Drunk thou art on passion's red wine
A ruby drop still on her lips.
Drunk shall thou be with her arms wound about you
When reason and memory from thee flee.

Drink deep Lethe's harsh, salty waters
Drink deep the tears of the forgotten.

Savor forbidden fruits, the need that you feel,
Sharpening hunger for her love, soft and warm.
Honeycomb to the palate, making full your delight,
But in the belly, deadly nightshade doth boil.

Drink deep Lethe's harsh, salty waters.
Drink deep the tears of the forgotten.

Taste regrets unspoken, the pain of the past,
By silence the barriers did you seal.
Taste cold bitter sorrows, dregs of innocence lost,
The wormwood of love's lost appeal.

Drink deep Lethe's harsh, salty waters
Drink deep the tears of the forgotten.

Look into her eyes, the promises there,
Desire burning fevered and bright.
But, pray, for an instant remember a trust,
Now broke and thine... nevermore.

Drink deep Lethe's harsh, salty waters.
Drink deep the tears of the forgotten.

                                                      "Who's Susan?  What's a Starsky?"
