A smile and a touch, that's all it was in truth.
But standing there, suddenly I knew everything.
I could see what had been hidden, like a bud in early spring.
Something beautiful that so few could see.
And there, a spark, a flame, a touch of sunlight allowed it to appear for me.
The flower opened for me then, spreading wide petals,
To show the dazzling colours in the morning light.
Like a butterfly spreading its wings for the first time.
A realisation of something that had always been.
I thought back, then, to the things I thought I'd known.
Small things can change in the new morning light.
Mussed hair and crumpled clothes make me blush now,
Though previously so innocent.
A reassurance became more, a comfort spoke volumes.
Strange how memories paint invisible pictures,
To be revealed only when a new colour is added.
And now this colour is all I can see, all I can see
But I knew it wasn't for me, so I turned away from that morning light.
A smile and a touch, who would have thought?
Written with a couple in mind, but can really be applied to just about anyone!
