A/N: I don't own NGE or anything that has to do with it, yada.yada.yada.
And now I would like to present....
It's Now or Never
Chapter 1: Departure
It was bound to happen.
This is all Shinji could come up with. 'It was bound to happen,' he thought to himself. After the failed impact, everything was returning to normal. Shinji was now able to live like a regular teenager along with his friends and everything seem to be going great, until he learned that she was leaving.
"I can't believe that she's leaving," he sighed. "Why now? I thought she was going to stay."
Misato, who was standing next to him at the airport terminal, overheard his musing, "What did you expect Shinji? She has a life back in Germany. You didn't think she was going to stay here forever did you?"
The discussion was focused on one Asuka Langley Sohryu. She was packed and ready for the long flight back to Germany. "God I can't wait to get back to the Motherland and have some real food," she quipped, "And get away from this awful place." She glanced over to Shinji, who was still talking with Misato. 'Why does he look like the world is ending?' She laughed quietly at this; after all she had been through, all the things she had seen in the past year.
"Don't worry Shinji, she'll be coming back every so often to check in and for us to run sync tests," Misato reassured. "But how often will she be coming back? Months at a time Misato, everything will change in between. Nothing will ever be the same after she leaves," Shinji argued. "I don't want her to go either Shinji, but this is her choice and we need to respect that." Shinji knew he couldn't argue that fact and hung his head in defeat.
At about that time Asuka decided to see what was going on. "What earth- shattering discussion are you two having over here," she said sarcastically. She reached over and flicked Shinji on the head. "Don't look so sad baka, I'm finally going to be able to return home. You won't have to put up with me and I won't have to eat Misato's cooking anymore." Misato shook her fist at her at this insult. Asuka feigned being scared and looked back over to Shinji, "Come on Third Child, you're coming with me."
Those words rung out in Shinji's head as she dragged him off. 'Just like when we first met.' 'I've got to do something to get her to stay, I don't want her to go.' And with that Shinji decided that now was the time. Time to confess something that had been held secret since the day he met her. 'But how am I gonna do it? What do I say'
"This is going to be hard," he sighed, "but I guess it's now or never."
A/N: God help me!!! What am I doing?!?! This is my first attempt at a fic and let me tell you, this little bit was hard. Makes me wonder how dennisud, Strike Fiss, Ranka and those other guys churn them out so fast and good. I come up with the idea while listening to Elvis and heard "It's Now or Never". Sounded like Shinji and his way of having to deal with a situation like this. Flame me...give me praise...just say something and let me know. Until then I'm gonna sit around and come up with more ideas. Late.
