Innocent Façade

"So, Catherine," the psychologist rounded the hospital wing corner and stopped. "How long have you been sleeping with Mr Grissom?"

"I- What?" She felt herself rapidly burning up, she felt like everyone in the hospital was watching her intently.

"Back there I was reading your facial expressions and your small signals towards each other. How long have you been sleeping with each other," he repeated.

Catherine tried not to let her eyes dart about as if in search of a viable answer. She felt her heart beat racing and gulped in a huge breath of air.

"I- What on earth has this got to do- Why?" she added suspiciously. "Is this a test?"

"There is no test. Are you going to answer my question?"

"I don't know what you mean- We haven't-."

"Mmmmmm."

"Mmmmmm?"

"Very good."

"What the hell are you going on about?"

"I wanted to see how you handle pressure, this patient, its not going to be easy trying to get what you want out of him, and its not going to be easy on you."

"So."

"Truth is, I'm terrible at reading faces."

"You lied. That was a test."

"I lied."

Catherine watched the psychologist lead the way to his patients. She smiled to herself and thought, 'I lied too.'
