How could I have been such an idiot?
That was the thought going through Ron Weasley's head at the moment. He had meesed up his chances with the only girl he ever loved, Hermione Granger, forever. He had kissed another girl, her sister Catharine. He had tried to explain that he had thought Catharine was Hermione, but it was no use. Now he had lost his one true love and there was no way of getting her back. He was forced to sit at the Yule Ball and watch her dance with Cameron, a boy from Slytherin, of all houses.
"Ron?"
It was Catharine and her date, Devon from Ravenclaw.
"What?" He didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment, but Catharine seemed intent on getting her sister and him back together.
"There's a new song coming on. You should ask Hermione to dance."
"She'll say no."
"You'll never no until you try."
"Cat, she hates me. She won't listen to my apologies no matter how hard I try! What makes you think it'll be different this time?"
"Because I talked to her and she understands."
"Fine, but she's going to say no."
He walked up to Hermione and Cameron.
"Hermione?"
Cameron glared at him. "Get lost, Weasel. You had your chance and you blew it."
"I believe I wanted to talk to Hermione, not you."
"Cam, let me handle this."
"All right, Mio."
She took Ron aside. "What do you want?"
"Cat said she talked to you, and I wanted to apologize. I honestly thought she was you. Please forgive me?"
Hermione thought it over. "Okay, but you have to make it up to me by dancing with me without stepping on my feet."
Ron grinned. "Deal."
They started dancing. A very drunk Cameron came up to them. "WEASEL! I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO GET LOST!!!!!!!! HERMIONE'S MINE NOW!" He started attacking Ron and Ron punched him in the nose.
Dumbledore came up to them. "That's enough, Mr. Scheible. You must leave now." He took Cameron by the collar and dragged him back to the Slytherin common room.
Hermione smiled at Ron. "Thank you for that. I was getting really sick of him."
"Why'd you come with him anyway?"
"Because he asked me right after I saw you kissing Cat, and I wanted to get back at you, so I said yes."
"Well, now we're back together and nothing can take us apart again."
He smiled and kissed his girlfriend tenderly.
