Morncreek's 2008 A/N: This fanwork is ugly, in regards to its formatting. This is not my fault. I have done my best to restore some semblance of what was, but there is only so much I can do to circumvent FFN restrictions.

A/N: The words may not be very similar to the poem "Hikari to Yami" (please review it, too!), but it is describing the same emotions. Please keep in mind that I have used a lot of symbolism. Finally, in my opinion, I do not need to do a disclaimer because 1) This is an original piece of work 2) You know that it is financially impossible for me to own Yu-Gi-Oh. Well, now that all that's out of the way- Enjoy!

Yami's (no, not Yami Yugi or any other yami in the TV series- this is Aurea's own special yami) voice is an alto-soprano, and Aurea is a soprano. The second time they both sing together, Aurea is melody and Yami is harmony; the rest of the time they both sing melody. This is not set to any specific tune or published song.

Hikari to Yami (song version)

Yami: Stormy waves crash, breaking
Upon the smooth unbroken shore
Of innocence in her eyes

At times, she is so naïve
And the wave then makes it
Past the self-imposed barriers-

It is heartbreaking to see
Such worldly wisdom in
That child's eyes.

She is me, and
I am her,
Yet...

Aurea: She was never innocent -
Being heir to the throne
Made sure of that.

Though she became a
Great Queen, the doubt
Overwhelmed - that is why

The sun fled her presence
Millenias ago, when she was
Sealed in that piece of gold.

She is me, and
I am her,
Yet...

Both: I feel that she is a stranger;
I don't know what to think, to say, to do.

An awkward silence while we stand in front of each other.
I gather my courage to look into her eyes.
I look! and I see
Her gazing back at me.
Then I wonder-

Yami: How can I help her when
I do not know myself?

Aurea: How can I be her friend when
I cannot open my heart?

Both: Does she see me as intruder
Into the place where
None but she have trod?

-But-

Yami: The sun!
I feel again the heat!

Aurea: The night
Has made me complete!

(ritardando)

Both: And there is no longer fear of the world

Aurea: For in her eyes I see-

Yami: Her soul wanting to be-

Aurea: -Yami

Yami: -Hikari.

º

ritardando: the speed of the song and words slow down

When you review, please DO NOT FLAME. I have invested much time into creating the best piece of work I could. If you don't like it, you are perfectly able to say so without cursing or calling me names. Constructive critiquing is, however, VERY welcome. If you have a question, please feel free to put it in your review; I will gladly answer them. Oh, and who is Aurea? She is going to be a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh fanfic I am writing, so I suppose you can consider the song somewhat as a teaser/spoiler
