Small One .

In his eyes, it was the most beautiful object in the world. It was a golden box, decorated with various hieroglyphs, and a large eye carved into the front, acting as a latch. One could only tell how old it truly was by the way it felt, for it looked as if it had only just been made.

He, ever so carefully, opened the it, revealing many oddly-shaped pieces, made of the same stuff as the box. It was promptly turned over, the pieces spilling onto his bed. Setting the box down gently on his dresser, he picked up two of the small things and tried to fit them together. He smiled in satisfaction as he heard a soft click, and the two puzzle pieces- for that is what they were- remained attatched to one another. Without another thought, he picked up another piece and began an attempt to fit it on to the linked ones.

Dark One .

He felt the blood drip from his mouth down his chin, but he did not bother to wipe it off. He felt another kick to his ribs, but he did not cry out, merely let the tears flow. These tears tainted with yet more of his own blood, from a deep cut just over his right eye. It hurt, oh did it hurt! But he would not give that man the pleasure of hearing him cry out. He wiped his tears on a ragged brown sleeve, then stood, facing his tormentor, not showing any of the fear he felt in his heart.

A fist connected with his cheek, and he crumpled to the floor once again. He was kicked repeatedly in his already much abused ribs. He had been attacked there far too many times, and at this point he was afraid something had been broken. A foot came down and rested upon his throat, threatening to crush it if that man decided he would apply any more pressure.

He heard only a muffled warning before he was overtaken by darkness.

The package was messily wrapped, but he assumed that it's sender had not had the time to do a good job of it. He was only glad he had recieved the package at all. At least his birthday had not been forgotten this year. Deciding he would get to it after he had some breakfast, he walked into the kitchen. Climbing onto the counter, he opened a cabinet, taking down a box of cereal and a bowl. He slipped back onto the tiled floor, which felt cold under his bare feet. He carried the bowl and box over to the table and set them down, then went to retrieve milk and a spoon.

With this task complete, he served himself the cereal and began to eat. However, he found that his mind continued to wander to the package that had been sent to him. He had definately felt something...strange about it. Like he was connected to it somehow.

But that was silly, right? Then why couldn't he shake this feeling...?

So, leaving his half-eaten food behind, he went to examine the mysterious package.

(A/N: My first Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfic! I hope that was okay... I know it's short, but this is only an intro chapter. The other chapters will be longer. Though I don't know when I'll next be able to update this....oh well.)
