Do you sometimes think that if you had a cool snowboard or nice bike that you'd be happy? Or if you got a brand new computer with high-speed Internet connection you would be content? What about a satellite dish? My list is never ending, how about yours? I'm sure there are things that everyone would like but something prevents us from having it all.

Readers on fan fiction, today you are going to read about something that EVERYONE wants more of ...no its not homework, it's MONEY.

Isn't it amazing how many lottery tickets are sold each day? Who hasn't stood in line for a 649 or scratch and win ticket daydreaming of how they're going to spend their new cash. How many people play the slots at casinos or spend countless hours at the Bingo Hall, with the hopes of striking it rich.

The value of money has certainly changed over the years, when my grandparents got married 50 years ago their house cost $8000 dollars, today a new married couple will pay over $100,000 for their 1st home. Gee at the rate these prices are climbing I can't begin to imagine what I'll pay!

In the 1930's you could buy a chocolate bar for a whopping 5 cents! I don't think that there would be a single chocolate bar left in all of Canada if they only cost a nickel!
As great as these prices sound, salaries were quite different back then too. In the early 1940's there was no minimum wage laws, and there definitely was no such thing as equal pay for men and woman. At Libby's canning factory in Chatam Ontario men made 35 cents an hour while woman doing the same job made 25 cents. Although 10 cents an hour doesn't sound like much now, back then it was enough to buy a loaf of bread for your family.

Today, pay cheques are MUCH bigger especially the professional athletes and famous actors. Julia Roberts makes over twelve million dollars a movie, while Paul Kariya the Canadian born NHL hockey Player makes ten million American dollars a year, That's $110, 000 a game. Most of us in Canada love hockey so much we pay to play.

Now I have to tell you that does sound pretty awesome. Famous actors and, professional athletes, making millions and millions of dollars a year for doing what they love. But even though they're making more money a year than most people see in a lifetime, it doesn't mean that money buys happiness. Things like family and friends are what make people truly happy.

Even the master card commercial seems to understand that money isn't every thing. You know, the one where the family buys their kids hockey equipment to play on the home made ice rink.

- Stick $60 - Gloves$ 100 - Skates$170 Spending quality time with your family. .....Priceless.

I want you to remember some of the best things in life are free, like a family snowball fight in the yard after the first snow or a really great laugh with your best friends, those are the things that make you truly happy.

Don't get me wrong I love money just as much as the next guy and I plan on making a lot of it when I get older, but for now I am going to sit back relax and enjoy that my parents pay the bills.
