For The Love Of Money

"Okay boys, go on ahead. We'll meet next week!"

Sakuragi stilled, then "What? ARe you not going with us, old man?"

Anzai-sensei smiled and nodded. "Yes. We will be staying here, Sakuragi-kun."

"Wha-?"

"Bye coach!!" The Shohoku Team called out and followed in the wake of the Josei instructor.

The red-head watched them go, perplexed. "Whaaa!!!! Old man! Why did you keep me here!!!"

Meanwhile, the Sakuragi-gundang was watching from a distance and a certain evil gleam entered their gaze.

"Good for you Hanamichi!" they'd snickered. "Hanamichi!! Give us back our money!!!" and grappled the poor redhead and Anzai to the ground.

Hours later, with a much subdued Hanamichi and company sitting on the gym floors, Anzai started talking. He bade Sakuragi to go home, eat and come back in an hour.

"Sure thing old man. But I still don't get why you have to keep tensai here! " He gave a small salute and left.

The Sakuragi-gundan turned to leave too but Anzai motioned for them to stay.

"What is it Anzai-sensei?" Youhei asked

"I would like to get the four of you help me."

Takamiya frowned a little and said, "sure thing coach! But, on what?"

The old man sat down on a chair and readjusted his glasses. The four waited in silene for him to speak up. "To train Sakuragi to do jump shots"

"What!??!!" They exclaimed collectively. "Are you mad sensei? No one can do it in a week!" Ookuzu wailed.

"Ho ho ho. If there is anyone who can do it, I believe he is the only one who could. He is a quick learner, don't you agree?"

They stared dumbfounded at eah other for a moment then finally Youhei nodded. "Yeah, that guy sure learns pretty fast."

"Good." Anzai smiled. "So would you help me?"

"Yeah!"

A week has come and gone since the coach of the basketball team talked to the four. They watched as Sakuragi perfected his jumpshots and trained himself hard for the upcoming interhigh. Meanwhile, the boys did odd jobs about to earn money again, but failed. That day, they lounged about the Shohoku gym, slumped helplessly in defeat.

"Ei, Youhei, do you think there's a slim chance we could go?" Noma asked wearily, staring at the bright blue of the sky outside.

"I'm not so sure. We tried so many things but we kept fouling up." Ookuzu replied.

Takamiya rolled on his stomach and looked at the other three. "Do you think it will be aired on TV?"

The boy with the slicked back black hair sighed. "Let's sure hope so."
At that point, Anzai came in and found them on the floor.

"Oh you're here. What are you doing here?"

"Just resting coach." Youhei replied as he sat up.

Takamiya tugged on the old man's pants. "Ne, coach, do you think the games of the interhigh will be aired on TV?"

He looked thoughtful for a moment, then "I don't think so. Why?"

There were collective groans from the ones on the floor. Anzai looked puzzled for a moment and then smiled. "You don't have money to go to the games, do you?"

"We tried everything coach, but..."

"Didn't I tell you that you already have tickets?"

"WHAAAAAT!!!?!?"

He smiled and nodded. "That's my thanks for helping me out with Sakuragi. Ho ho ho."

"We can go the games after all. Yokatta!"
