Title: Why Mommy, why?
Category: Romance
Description: continued from She's Got Her Whole World In Her Hands--Lana is a little older, started school, and current events are happening. Thought of the idea during Mass. I'm so sad...supposed to be paying attention to the homily...Status: not finished
"Why Mommy, why?" pleaded six year old Lana to her mother.
"Lana, because. That's just the way a butterfly was called." Abby said trying to get Lana's school lunch ready. She was at the stage of life that every other sentence that came out of her mouth was a question. This time was why a butterfly didn't like butter but had "butter" in the name. Abby was sometimes surprised at her questions because she noticed she wanted to know why too. She was amazed at how imaginative some questions were.
"Can I have a butterfly for a pet?"
"No, Lana, butterflies belong outside. You can watch them on Mommy's flowers when they come," she said finishing her little girl's lunch. "In the car now. Where's your jacket at?"
"I don't want one! I'm not cold," she said walking out the door. Then she opened the door and ran back in with a smile from ear to ear.
"Mommy look! Look! It's a butterfly! Can I have it? Please? Please please please?" She begged following her mom, who was looking for her keys.
"Lana, please. Leave the butterflies alone." Abby said as she grabbed her keys and gave a little push to her daughter. "Let's go! Mommy has to work early today," she said walking out the door, Lana trailing close behind. Abby buckled her into her car seat and ran to the front seat. She turned on a "We Sing Sing Alongs" tape. It was the only way to keep Lana quiet in the car. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" was playing. Abby heard Lana starting to sing with the music. She wondered in awe at her daughter. She never thought she would have a daughter like her. They arrived at school, unbuckled Lana, and showed her to the school doors.
"Daddy is picking you up," Abby said handing her her lunch box. She put strands of Lana's hair in the back of her ears and gave her a kiss. "Be good. Love you."
"Bye!" Lana said waving and running into the school to meet with her friends. Abby looked at her watch and ran back to the car as fast as she could. She remembered she had a meeting with the rest of the nurse staff in ten minutes.
