Author's Notes: For some reason, this scene just popped into my head upon watching the final episode of magic knight rayearth. There is potential for this to be the opening of a longer story, it feels like that to me, but I'm not sure where I would go with such a thing, so for now this is just a standalone character piece.
Sweet Sorrow

"Hikaru!"
"Lantis!"
I reach out my hand, desperately trying to reach him in the few moments I have left. After all our journeying, I finally know my own heart, I finally like who I am, and I finally am able to say without lying to myself how I feel.
I have to reach him, I have to tell him, I only have a few seconds left. Cephiro is fading from my view, and soon this will all be but a memory to the three girls from another world.
Lantis leans forward, his hand outreached towards my own. He smiles and I am glad. I know in that instant that my fingers will never brush against his, so even as the tears stream down my face I find the courage to call out, but softly, as if I am afraid of breaking something, probably my own heart.
"I love you."
His eyes never leave mine as he nods to me and whispers back, "And I you."
One hand stretches towards him, hoping that we could just embrace once, knowing that it will never happen. Around me Cephiro fades from view, and with a final sigh for what is not meant to be, I go home…
…I open my eyes, and look out at the sunlight which is just starting to come creeping into my bedroom. Shaking away the last vestiges of my dream, I sit up, knowing that I will live this day, and every day, without regrets.
