Chapter 2: In Which Harry And Draco Go To Hogwarts

Bright light. Very bright.

Harry rolled over in his bed, smushing his face into his pillow, making it so that he saw only blessed darkness.

"Time to get up, Harry," said a voice that at any other time would have sounded soft and pleasant. Right now, though, Harry thought it was rather reminiscent of a fly buzzing continuously in his ear.

Harry shook his head, smushing it farther into his pillow. No. No, it was definetly not time to get up yet.

"Ok, then," the voice said. "How about this?"

There was a pause, then many voices started singing:

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Harry."

Harry rolled over in shock. His birthday. It was his birthday. How could he have forgotten?

Sitting beside his bed was his Mum, her red hair long, flowing, and soft, having just been brushed. Eve was washed and dressed as well, her hair neatly braided, and she was bouncing excitedly at the foot of his bed.

His father was crouched next to his Mum, his hand on her shoulder. Standing farther away from his bed were Uncle Sirius, who stood watching Harry with amusment, his arm wrapped around Uncle Remus' waist. Narcissa Malfoy stood there too, her tall slender body standing a good few inches taller that everyone else, her pretty mouth curved up in a gentle smile. And next to her - standing with a large birthday cake with lots candles and chocolate frosting - was Draco, grinning madly.

".happy birthday to you!" Draco was now near enough to the bed for Harry to sit up, leaned over the cake, and blow at the flickering flames on the candles with all his might. He let out a long, continous stream of air untill all the candles were extinguised. However, one flame flickered back. Harry blew at it again. And yet again it came back. Harry chuckled, then blew at it with all his strength. Still, it came back. Harry laughed, and Sirius said, "Persistent little bugger, ain't it?" He nodded, then licked his index finger and thumb, and clamped them quickly over the flame, finally extinguising it for good.

"Ok," said Lily, "Now go wash up and we'll have some cake."

Harry stared at her in disbelief. Lily just laughed.

"What? It's your birthday. I can break the 'no sweets in the morning' rule once. Now go wash up!" Harry nodded vigorusly and raced to the bathroom.
