Chapter One.

Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself. She read the sentence for the fourth time and her eyes wandered yet again to the people moving in across the road. From her view on the front porch, she couldn't see a lot, but she knew if she moved it would be more suspicious to her dad, who was sat next to her, thinking she was reading her book for her English Literature assignment. He had started to nag her, what with it being her final year, and he kept a constant check on her homework. She was glad of it, because it meant that she actually got work done, instead of procrastinating, like spying on the new neighbours and their son, who looked of a similar age to her and quite tall and dark. She wondered if he was handsome too and chuckled to herself.

"Claudia- Jean."

"Yes, Dad?"

"I'm going inside."

She was glad he did, because soon after, one of the new neighbours came over. He was about her age, perhaps a year or so older, with dark hair and equally dark, intense, deep eyes. He looked nervous, and kept looking over his shoulder at his parents who were busy unpacking their car.

"Erm... Hi."

"Hi." She smiled, hoping he couldn't hear the drum-roll of her heart pounding against her ribcage, which was quite worrying. Her pulse never raced around guys. She twirled a strand of her long, straight, auburn- brown hair around a slender finger.

"I'm Toby."
