Five hours. Five hours until sundown, five hours untilthe begining of defeat, or five hours until the begining of triumph. Five hours is hardly enough time for an army of three-hunred to prepare for a war against ten thousand. Especially when some of our "soldiers" are young boys and elderly men. Gimli and I have been trying to keep up every one's spirit as i assume Legolas is doing as well, though I do not know of his whereabouts. Infact, I have not seen the Elven Prince in quite a while.
"Gimli!," I called out to the dwarf, who was attempting to grab one last leg of turkey from King Theodens gracious baffet. He took a quick bite before running to my side. With a full mouth Gimli tried to tell me something which I curteously dismissed.
"Have you seen Legolas, lately?" He pondered my question as he finished chewing.
"Not spoken to the elf since dinner, haven't seen him since then for that matter."
"Thank you, I will return shortly," I patted Gimli on the shoulder and set off to find Legolas. The only thing I knew was that he was somewhere here, in Helm's Deep. Where to beginlooking, I do not know. Perhaps the keep or the foyer?
Hours later and still no sign of Prince Greenleaf. If only he weren't such a silent I might have a chance at hearing his foot steps. There may be one place i have not yet combed over and that would be the downstairs chamber.
Walking down the stair case i thought I had failed again for the room was silent. When I scanned the room, I saw it was deserted, or so it seemed. I was about to leave when my eye caught a glimpse of movement in the shadows. Taking a step towards it, I could now make out the silouette of a man....or perhaps an elf.
"Legolas? Is that you?" I took a few more steps towrds the figure.
"Aragorn.." A weak voice called to me. I could now tell that it was, indeed, Legolas.
I knelt down next to him and laid a hand on his back, "Come, Legolas, we must prepare for the long battle ahead of us."
"A battle? No, in order for it to be a battleboth sides must struggle. This is an execution on their part," The elf's eyes were fixed on the floor, his voice was soft, yet stern.
"Legolas, do not put doubt in your mind. No one knows exactly what is to come, but we have an advantage over the Uruk-Hai. We are fighting for something worth putting our souls into, we're fighting for the good of Middle Earth. What are the Uruk-Hai fighting for? Sauroman?" The corner of the prince's mouth curved slightly upward. I knew Legolas was not one to let me down and I think he also knew that.
"I have faith in you, Aragorn. And if you have faith in the battle, then i will be by your side the whole way through," When he looked into my eyes, I could tell he was still weary, but he was also willing.
