A/N: This is a little fic of inspiration, I've never seen any like, but if there is then oh well, here's mineā¦lol. Well anyway I hope you enjoy this!

Kel sighed and looked down into small, determined brown eyes.
"Tobe, I can't take you with me! You could live and thrive here in New Hope, you don't need to grow up on the road. I wouldn't now how to care for you out there. And besides I wouldn't make a good m-"Kel halted and looked away form the boy. She had almost said the word had she dare not say. Not since she had taken Tobe as her "servant" had she ever even mentioned being his mother, though both he and she knew that was what Kel was.
"I'm going with you! I can't just stay here!" Tobe protested. Kel scowled at him, now that the war was over, New Hope was an official city, and there were people here who could care for Tobe and all his friends were here, too. The war had ended almost uneventfully, after defeating Blace and his machines Tortall pushed the Scanrans back to their borders and word had some that their king Maggur had killed himself in front of the Tortall troops that had come to capture him. He had dived out a window rather than surrender. Now that there was no fighting on the Scanran border Kel was returning to Corus and to Fief Mindelan for a little break that King Jonathan had rewarded the hardest working knights. Then she would probably be sent on some mission, perhaps into the desert where the mysterious Bazaar(sp?) lived. She had always wanted to go there. She shook her head to clear it.
"Tobe, we've been over this again and again. You know I'll miss you," she said her voice soft. She bent down to look into his eyes. "You know that I'll miss you more than anyone and that I care for you very much, but that's why I can't let you go. Here you'll get an education." Kel was ashamed to find that tears were building up behind her eyes. "You know this is hard for me too." Swiftly she grasped the boy in a hug. As tears threatened to fall.
"Milady," Tobe said roughly, he was crying a desperately trying not to let her see, "I promised to follow you forever, to never let you out of my sight, and I mean it. Just let me go with you a bit, just to your home and the palace, please Kel." Kel almost sobbed right then and there he never called her Kel. Kel wrestled with herself.
"Tobe, just give me one night to think about it, I'm leaving tomorrow and I'll decide then," Kel smiled at him and wiped his eyes. "Let's walk around a bit," Tobe nodded and they set off through camp.
A/n: I know this was short, but well I dunno if people like this or not. It's not really the norm, but I like thinking of Kel as Tobe's mother. (Well you know she's not... not yet anyway, but she could be)
