The Desert Rose

Among the pyramids of Egypt

Extending beyond secretive crypts

Searching through the heat of desert sands

Traveling across barren wastelands

Deciphering obscure inscriptions

Keeping in mind a vague description

Of what I see but can never hold

More precious to me than all my gold

Something so ravishing yet so bold

Striking cast that's my perfect mold

Carved from marble with the finest skill

Complete when touched by a goddess' will

Kissed by the lips of Aphrodite

Descending from her you came to me

Wings spread wide, touched by Lady Isis

Bestowing to earth great surprises

Thoth, in all his wisdom and glory

Added his knowledge to this story

Sacred scrolls tell of your legacy

The desert Rose…I want you for me

One who disappears into the night

Riding streams of moonbeams you take flight

Leaving me in your majestic wake

Soul in your palms, always yours to take

Lost within the depths of your last kiss

Engulfed in the waves of wedded bliss

Feeding off of amorous desire

Stuck pining in this misery mire

Aimlessly I wander rough terrain

Chanting endlessly the same refrain

Desert rose, great garden mine

In the Valley of the Kings we'll dine

Crossing the river of souls unharmed

Confronting Anubis unalarmed

Passing the weight of matters with scales

Boldly standing without looking frail

Admitted into Osiris' place

Vanishing from life without a trace

Sanctuary of solitude

Showing the gods my gratitude

Raising my voice joyously to Ra

Our romance then becomes divine law

Kneeling in the essence of star dust

Surrounded by celestial gusts

Penetrating your slender features

Dear Bast, there is no sweeter creature

Who can duplicate your moans and sighs

Or try to mimic the way you lie

Kissing in the breeze of timeless space

Share my breath in all its sacredness

By the goddess of love we've been blessed

Permit me to pluck you from the tombs

Walking across the burial rooms

Ascending the stairway to the light

Allowing our spirits to take flight

Avoiding the wrath of hungry dunes

Dismissing bad fortune from stone ruins

Seated by the deities bright

Mother Isis listens to our plight

Granting us our first and only wish

Promising to never be selfish

Drifting through the subtle summer wind

Two souls united, now we both grinned

Soft slender fingers stroking my cheek

Tangible wealth is not what I seek

Distribute my palace and my things

I no longer need them, I have wings

Power and riches…I have no need

So long as I have your tiny seed

Planted inside me faith and trust

Forever with you in love I must

Stay and be in tender harmony

Breathing the scent of my Nile blossom

Easily, chords of my heart you strum

I give up my crown without a frown

My powerful scepters I throw down

In the kingdoms of gods and pharaohs

I live for the noble desert rose
