KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR
"Hey...hey! Aren'tchu that
dancer? What's yer name?" The drunk witness slurred his words as he continued to babble
into Catherine's face, "Cat! Cat, that's yer
name! Cat...you're the dancer, Cat...from..." He stumbled a bit off the
curb but regained his stance in front of the silent CSI and continued, "French
Palace! You're
Cat from French Palace!
I remember you! I used to come watch you all the time, babe! Damn, you are
still one fine piece o' a..."
"Mr. Wiles," Grissom stepped in, blocking the drunk
man from falling towards Catherine, "this cop here is going to bring you
to the police station to record your statement. After that, I suggest you go
home and sober up. No one's going to believe a drunk in court."
"Hey...who the hell are you?" The drunk frowned lazily as his vision of
Catherine suddenly became one of Grissom.
"I'm Gil Grissom, I'm with the crime lab."
"I don't care who you're with. I was talkin' to
this nice lady here..."
"Well that's done with. You're talking to this nice cop now." Grissom
gestured at a nearby uniformed cop.
"Oh c'mon Cat...how about I talk to *you*? For old
time's sake huh? How about it, babe?"
"Mr. Wiles, don't make me ask you again.
If you don't go with this cop now, I will charge you with obstruction of
justice." Grissom answered firmly, not budging from his spot between the
drunk and Catherine. Not giving the witness a chance to protest, Grissom gestured
for the cop. After the cop dragged the drunk away, Grissom shook his head and
turned to Catherine, who was looking at him with an amused look on her face,
"What?" He frowned.
With one raised eyebrow, Catherine smiled, "What was that?"
"What was what?"
"What just happened here." Catherine waved
her hand in the space between them, "You standing in between me and the
drunk. That was very 'knight in shining armour' of
you."
"He was being rude."
"Uh-huh...I could've handled him."
"I don't doubt that. I know you can hold your
own."
"But...?"
Grissom shrugged casually, "I didn't like the way he was talking to you."
"I'm not ashamed of my past, Grissom."
"I'm not either. But
that doesn't mean drunken jerks can just come up to you and say things like
that. It's not right."
"Ok." Catherine answered with a smile as she followed him to their Tahoe,
"Hey Grissom?"
"Yeah?" He turned slightly to look at her.
"Thanks for being my knight in shining armour."
