~~~~~~~ The Day My Cow Ran Away ~~~~~~
~~ A Tale of Grief by Rand al'Thor~~
~ Dedicated to all of us who have experienced hardships in our lives, but found the strength and courage to go on~
A bouqet of dandelions rests on the stone block that is the Emond's Field Cow Memorial. Engraved upon this is the inscription:
Oh Bessie! Great is our saddness, heavy our grief. That we, your family, could not have one last treasured day with you, One last special moment. So, instead, we spend this moment in your remembrance. Forever may you run in green fields of wildflowers, Ever may you 'moo' with joy. Our loss is made less, Only thinking of the happiness You brought to me, Rand al'Thor. Bessie, I love you, my cow.
Rand dried his eyes on Egwene's apron, sniffling. Just reading the words, remembering his Bessie, made him sad. He thought wistfully of the joyous days he had spent, running happily through the fields with his beloved cow. He thought of the good times they had shared, the milk they had toasted each other with. Rand still remembered the beautiful twinkle in Bessie's eyes. He thought back to a long time ago...
"Bessie?"
"Yes, Rand?"
The two lay on their backs in the pasture, gazing at the clouds, enjoying each other's treasured company.
"I keep thinking... if you weren't a cow, and I weren't a Dragon, I'd really love to..."
"To what, Rand?"
"To stay with you. We could pick wildflowers all day, and run through the fields... you're a remarkable cow, you know that, don't you, Bessie?"
"Oh, Rand," Bessie giggled, "No one has ever said anything nicer to me in my life! Thank you. But... why can't you?"
"Because, Bessie, my love, I must go to Tear and rule it, and Illian. And Cairhien. Hey, while I am at it, how about the entire world? I am the Dragon Reborn!"
"I understand," Bessie sighed, "But, you'll always remember me in your heart, won't you? I'll always remember you in MY heart. That's why I'm giving you this token of my affection. Treasure it always..."
Rand sat up, gazing adoringly at his cow. "Of course, Bessie."
And with that, Bessie rose, turned her back to Rand, bent over, and farted.
"OH... BESSIE... that has got to be... the most beautiful... gift... I have ever recieved. And I will treasure it always..." Rand examined a hole burnt in his side by the stench. (that half-healed wound, you know? the wound that NOTHING can heal? This is where he REALLY got it!)
"Thank you..."
~*~
But alas! Bessie had fled in her grief. Rand would forever hold himself accountable, but always tried to push it to the back of his mind. But every so often, as when he stole kisses from Elayne in the Stone of Tear, or when he looked at Min or Aviendha, Rand would always remember his cow, Bessie, and think of his old wound. Sometimes, when the Aiel clan chiefs farted, he could almost feel Bessie's treasured fart.
I will treasure it forever, my love, my life, my cow.
A/N: Okay..... this is NOT supposed to be serious, as you mighta been able to tell from the fart. If you weren't able to tell, that is a sign that:
#1: You need an attitude adjustment #2: You are WAY to sentimental.
