A/N: This was a drabble I wrote for the Wednesday100 challenge on Live Journal. We had to go to wordoftheday on LJ and use the word posted on our birthday somewhere in the story. No more than 100 words.

manse

manse \MAN(T)S\, noun:

1. A large and imposing residence.

2. The residence of a clergyman (especially a Presbyterian clergyman).

Solitude

Most of the houses in Smallville looked the same. Same size; same colour; nothing discernable about them. Just like the people who lived inside them.

Luthor Manor stood out like a sore thumb. The large manse sat apart from the others, demanding attention. People looked on it with a mixture of awe, fear, and envy.

Lex was a lot like the old manor. Sophisticated, elegant, effortlessly drawing attention to himself. Many of Smallville's residents feared him.

Like the manor, Lex stood alone. People breezed through his life, but in the end, the only person Lex could count on was himself.
