He watched her run ahead, her laughter floating back to him, taunting, teasing, flirting. The moon shone down upon her blond hair, turning it almost white, her long skirts billowing behind her as she ran on. He followed through the trees trying to reach her but on she ran beckoning to him. He felt he was being toyed with, almost catching her only to lose her again. He ran on until he came to the deserted playground, quiet now except for the crunch of pebbles beneath his feet.

Gazing around he looked at the still swings, motionless, taking a deserved rest from the many children who laughing and giggling tried to reach the skies as they swung higher and higher. The chain bridges swaying gently in the breeze, designed in medieval times, now used to delight and give joy to our children as they brazenly crossed the bridge. The moon cast a white glow over them giving a supernatural feel to the night.

Tearing himself away from this spell he glanced around searching for her. Following the sound of her laughter he found her sitting still upon a swing. Soundlessly he approached her and gently pushed her. As she gained height he stepped back to watch her with loving eyes. As her momentum slowed she nimbly jumped off the swing and ran across the open area bathed in moonlight. Sitting silently, he watched her, as she twirled and danced, her long hair flowing in a stream around her. Again she called to him beckoning, teasing, flirting.

He stood up, never taking his eyes off her. Suddenly he ran to her catching her in his arms, kissing her tentatively. She raised her face to look up at him, the love and excitement shining in her eyes. Gathering her to him, he gently pulled her into a little wooden hut, built for children to play hide and seek in. They only wished to hide away together, from the world. As they stepped inside, the smell of wood gave a natural, earthy aroma to the night. The darkness of the hut was softened partly by the light of the overhead moon.

They stood apart from each other breathing gently, as they slowly looked at each other. With tentative steps they approached each other. Slowly he reached his hand out to her to slip it softly around her waist and pull her towards him. Turning she pulled away from him and backed up against the wall. He approached her gently. She gazed into his eyes with trust and love filling her, making her body sing with elation. Slowly he leant in and kissed her gently bringing his hands up to caress her neck.

He watched her close her eyes as she enjoyed the closeness of his touch. Suddenly her eye's shot open. Gasping she raised her hands to her neck, grasping and clawing at his, still he slowly squeezed tighter and tighter. Her eyes now reflecting, fear bulged as her body shook from lack of oxygen. Then gently she slid to the floor as he released her. Slumped to one side he looked at her beautiful face, gathering her hair in his hands, feeling the silky strands slip between his fingers.

As he leaned in to kiss her he noticed how pale and white she had become. Gently he ran his fingertips over her delicate eyelids, then down the soft of her cheek. Slowly he traced the outlines of her lips, soft as blushing petals. Gathering her to him he whispered a sweet goodbye in her ear. As he left through the doorway, the moon crept behind a cloud, ashamed at what it had witnessed. A silence descended upon the forest and all was still.
