Merry and Pippin walked along the dusty road to Bag End. It was different.
They missed Frodo. It was strange entering bag end to Sam and Rosy and not
Frodo. They loved Sam and got on well with Rosy but they missed Frodo and
it wasn't the same.
They pushed the gate open and walked in through the round, green door and nearly walked straight into elanor. She was just learning to walk. She toddled round the house with Rosy following, holding on to her chubby hands and smiling at her daughter.
Sam was in the study. He was spending more and more time in there since Frodo and Gandalf had left. He was trying to finish Frodo and Bilbo's book but as soon as he started he discovered that he couldn't write like Frodo or especially Bilbo. He looked up as Merry and Pippin knocked at the door. He grinned at the two of them peeping round the door.
"Hello. What do you two want? Shouldn't you be over at Buckland helping your families?"
"Sam!! You really do worry too much about our families. We are allowed to do what we want. All we want to do is help you. You look really awful and have done since Frodo left."
That was Merry, down right as ever. Always speaking the ultimate truth without a bit of tact. Pippin was different. After some his mistakes on the journey to destroy the ring, he had become much more subtle and silent and didn't always speak his mind like Merry. Even though the two were still as thick as thieves, they had both changed since their massive adventure. They wanted to journey again. The admiration that they had got from all the Hobbiton and Buckland folk just wasn't enough anymore. They wanted to go back and see Aragorn and Arwen, fulfil their duties as knights of Edoras and Gondor and stop off to see Legolas and Gimli, and catch up on their news. The only problem was Sam. They wanted him to come too, but he had settled back in and was now happy at Bag End so everyone thought.

Sam I wish I had gone with Mr Frodo and Gandalf on the boat away from the Grey havens. I miss them so much. I always knew that things were alright when Mr Frodo was around. Gandalf was so secure. It seems that nothing is the same without them. I wish I could go and see Aragorn and talk about it. He might know how I'm feeling. It's like a part of life has gone and I know it won't come back.

"Sam, what are you doing?" Merry asked as he jumped into the study. Pippin followed close on his heels.
"You aren't still writing in Frodo's book, are you?"
"Yes actually I am. Mr Frodo took this book very seriously and so do I." Sam replied looking seriously at the two hobbits. "I actually have to work. Not like you two who don't do anything to help and just run around Buckland and Hobbiton all day."
"Well Sam. I have had good news. I have had a message from Legolas and his family have heard the whole story about the ring and want us to go and stay and then travel on to see Aragorn and Arwen in Gondor." Pippin said.
"Sam, you will come won't you? Aren't you wondering how everyone is and how Aragorn and Arwen are getting on. I want to see the place that we fought in again and go and see where Legolas lives and the place where Bilbo hid from the spiders" said Merry.
"I can't." Merry and Pippin groaned. They knew that he would probably say that but they weren't going to stop trying to persuade him.
"Yes you can. You will not be away for long and Rosy and Elanor will be fine. Your father will keep an eye on them. Please come."
