Forbidden fruits,
The denial of nature
The blinded mind cannot see the clearest of truths...
A flash of lightning fills the grey, gloomy sky as the rain carries on pelting down. The sole person standing at the bus stop winces slightly, hunching herself up underneath her umbrella. The dull light that filters through the clouds casts a sort of film across the imposing buildings that line the streets. Red brick, brown brick, all seem to be coated in a muggy grey that sucks the life from everything around them.
She checks her watch, wiping water off the fascia gently with her finger. The bus is running late again. A large droplet of rain drips off the side of her umbrella as she tilts it slightly; it lands on her hand, and she pulls back slightly, amused at the chill.
A car drives past, windscreen wipers flicking rapidly back and forth, headlights refracting through the storm. She watches in boredom, her leather satchel by her side.
Someone else comes to join her at the stop, but she doesn't really pay them any attention, flicking her eyes to the right briefly in acknowledgement but not considering a conversation.
She waits for a while longer, increasingly irritated by the bus schedule. She turns to her companion and briefly asks him if he knows if there's a bus strike on. With a shake of his head, she begins the walk to the taxi ranks up the road.
The rain begins to ease off as she walks, staring at the ground as she goes to avoid tripping on the uneven pavement. Her heels click awkwardly against the stone.
The storm stops completely. Surprised, but pleased, she takes down her umbrella and shakes it off quickly.
She slows and stops, her face furrowed in concern. She shakes the umbrella again. She watches as the droplets of water fly out in a perfect semicircle in front of her. She looks up.
She gasps in shock as she sees high walls of water reaching to the sky surrounding her, seeming to flow upwards. Apart from the size of the circle she stands in, which rapidly begins to shrink, the entire world is blotted out by the water, churning and foaming as it races higher and higher.
She screams in alarm and tries to run, but is forced to the ground roughly as she collides with the thick water which closes in around her. Crying out in pain, she looks up from the ground in terror to watch the walls come crashing down towards her, the last thing she will ever see.
The bus pulls up at the stop and lets the sole passenger on, before continuing up the road through the storm. The rain pours down.
