Summary: A poem about Aragorn's death. Legolas reflects.

A/N: The title is mine, but I got the inspiration for it from two writers - Nefertili and Isys. This is my first attempt at LOTR poetry, so be nice. I accept constructive criticism, but not flames. There's a difference between those two. This is my entry for The Library of Moria's April Archivists' Challenge: Dark fanfiction.

************

Tears flowing down my face,

I watch as people pass me by,

Happiness leaves not a trace,

As I am forced to say good-bye.

How could he vanish in thin air,

The man I loved and cherished,

How could Aragorn, Isildur's heir,

With old age just perish?

You spoke to me on your deathbed,

In a voice so weak and strained,

When I saw you my heart bled,

To see you in such great pain.

You told me you had to go,

And I desperately tried to object,

But when I tried to convince you so,

You said a word not on the subject.

So I had no choice,

But to move on,

But in my dreams, I here your voice,

Your voice like a song.

So I try to live my life,

The way it used to be,

But now it's filled with sorrow and strife,

Or maybe that's just me.

I knew that this is what you want for me,

To continue to live in peace and for what is true,

But, Elessar, can you not see,

How can I live without you?

So I wait, and wait some more,

My hold on life no longer strong.

Maybe life still has something for me in store,

But I will die of grief before long.

I have one word to say before I die,

Estel - and that was all,

I love you, and good-bye,

You are my answer in the dark, when death calls.

*Fin*

A/N: *sob* Oh, that's sooooo sad! Whadja think?

I have disclaimed something. Other than Tolkien's characters, I borrowed the last stanza from the book, Helen Keller, Crusade for the Blind and Deaf by Stewart and Polly Anne Graff. The stanza is on the last page of the book. It goes like this:

Teacher-and that was all.

It will be my answer

In the dark

When death calls.

That stanza was dedicated to Annie Sullivan Macy, the teacher of Helen Keller.

Thanks for reading my fic!
