Title: Taking Another Look
Author: Crazyduck
Summery: A different look at what could have happened in this week's ep of Angel (SPOILERS)
Rating: PG for now
Disclaimer: Nothing is mine. All settings, characters, plot ideas, etc belong to Joss Whedon and the other creators of BtVS and Angel.
AN: I AM REALLY SORRY FOR DISCONTINUING MY OTHER FIC. HOPEFULLY, THIS WILL HELP MAKE UP FOR IT.
AN2: This chapter is very similar to the ep, but it sets up some MAJOR plot branches that I will expand on in my next chapter. I intentionally did not used direct dialogue from the show (aside from Angel's first line), so if u think something is off, that might be it. =)
PROLOGUE-
Angel stood, with his eyes fixed on the innocent folder, for what seemed like an eternity. Lilah, trying to hurry Angel's internal conflict along, decided to speak up. "You wouldn't believe some of the great dirt we have managed to 'happen upon.' The deceit, lies, everything: it's perfectly delicious." She grinned as she saw the vampire flinch slightly.
"She doesn't need me," He retorted evenly, not bothering to avert his eyes.
Lilah's grin grew. In a mocking fashion, she immitated a mother by shaking her finger like a pendulum to assert his incorrectness. "Ah, but would she ask even if she did?."
"She has her own life now."
Lilah took a step towards him, willing him to glance at her. She wanted to see if his eyes were red with blood tears, cold with indifference, or simply pained with guilt. After all, she needed to know what he cared about most: his son, his ex-lover, or his girlfriend. The son was currently in the lead for being more important than Angel's sire, Darla, and the watcher, Wesley. Buffy and Cordy were tied for second: Buffy being more important than Angel's humanity, and Cordy for being more important than reconciliation with his son. "Come on Angel, I'm not telling you to go down and save her from-"
"DON'T," he growled, a little more loudly than he had intended. "She's a surviver, she can deal." Finally looking away from the folder, he looked Lilah in the eyes. "Just tell me: where's Cordy."
Lilah looked at the phone anxiously. What was taking them so long? The phone should have rung more than a minute ago! She had to hold back a sigh of relief as the sharp noise finally filled the room. Trying her best to saunter casually, she made her way to the phone and answered it. Interrupting the other speaker's string of apologies for being late, she quickly said her well-rehearsed line with as much distress as she could manage. "Oh. Oh my, yes, of course. Thank you." She hung up the phone and spun around to face Angel. "A little birdy just told me something I think you might want to hear before you go out there looking for your little girlfriend." Angel restrained a growl at her sing-song voice, but before he could act, his attention was moved to a television screen as a part of the wall opened up to reveal it.
The news. Angel's heart sunk, knowing he was not going to like what he saw.
"With all the chaos that has resulted from the recent occurences, it is difficult to choose a top story. Acts of violence and vandalism are sweeping the city in waves. Take a glimpse at what this young man is doing after loosing paradise." The images changed, and Angel found himself looking at the face of a very distressed, angry Conner...surrounded by a bunch of innocents strapped to explosives.
"Oh God...Conner." He looked at Lilah for unecessary conformation. Within seconds, he was out the door. Once he was gone, Lilah looked back at the screen, noticing two blonde figures in the background. "Ooh, a surprise. How yummy. Mommy would be very happy, and the pixies would shreak in glee," she finished, changing form into the pale vampiress known as Drucilla. "If only my Spikey could be here to see."
