Mrs Zachiner stepped up the rostrum and hemmed. If only I took care and
didn't trip with an obtrusive crash. This was the moment, I knew it was all
over and the target was locked in position. Mrs Zachiner was in mischief
and I could feel her eyes like burning-glass against my scorched skin.
"Oh, why isn't it the new girl who arrived a week ago, how clumsy of you. Why don't you come forward and I'll introduce you," said Mrs Zachiner. I was scared that the stained glasses were going to break because of her repulsive sweetie voice.
Every step, the atmosphere grew tense and how deadly the silence seemed. Not a single movement occurred between the students, all eyes were drawn directly on me. The crooked smile on Mrs Zachiner's face tried not to reveal itself. Those who had already been in my position expressed pity, which seemed to be the majority.
"Welcome to Serene Girls High and I am your fantastic, amazing principal," said Mrs Zachiner emphasizing about how brilliant she is rather than introducing the school. "Now, now have you recited the school rules? What about the school hymn? The school prayers?" Mrs Zachiner's voice trailed off. Each question I didn't dare to reply. It would be just better to keep her babbling on and on. Please let time pass quickly. These thoughts were interrupted by Mrs Zachiner's shrilling voice.
"Ladies, maybe she is deaf or maybe she doesn't know how to reply!" Mrs Zachiner laughed hysterically and her voice echoed to the end of the hall. I didn't find it very funny instead awfully offensive. I felt a sense of resentment towards Mrs Zachiner for her brutality and also towards the other teachers for their diminutive power. I began to drift into my mind again and think how the world is so unjust to others and me who are put into these kinds of situation.
I suddenly returned to back to conscience and saw that she was carrying in her hand a bundle of twigs tied together at one end. "Unloose your pinafore!" screamed Mrs Zachiner. I unloosed my pinafore as I was told, shaking from head to toe. Mrs Zachiner inflicted a dozen strokes on my neck, how sharp and painful each stroke appeared to be. I didn't dare expose my tears at the corner of my eyes, as it would make Mrs Zachiner angrier for not being strong and acting like a baby.
"Lock her in the cold room for tonight and no student is allowed to visit her until further notice. These are my strict orders and if anyone should disagree they will be locked up with her. Ms Humbly take her away from my sight. I obediently followed Ms Humbly, she was Mrs Zachiner's personal servant, I hate her too mainly because she has the same personality as Mrs Zachiner, cruel and pitiless. My mind seemed to drift off again; I was wondering how I made Mrs Zachiner so furious.
We came to a stop and I nearly banged against a door with 10 sturdy locks. This was it the mysterious "Cold Room." The room said to be haunted with bad souls and evil spirits. The door squeaked as it was forced open. She thrust me in and bolted the door.
