CHAPTER 1 Patrick watched with a heavy heart as she walked from the room, her cheeks wet with tears. With a sigh of frustration he left his seat and followed her. "Hey," he heard Mr. Morgan call, "where do think your going?" Patrick shook his head and walked out of class. As he walked down the hall he heard a shaky breath come from around the corner. He poke his head around it. When he looked he could see Kat and she appeared to be crying. This just kept getting weirder and weirder. Somehow, not in his wildest dreams could he have imagined Kat crying. Now to see her like this, well, it was a little bit overwhelming. She wiped her eyes and with an upward glance, caught him in her perifrial vision. She rolled her eyes and turned to walk away. Mentally kicking himself for not acting sooner he grabbed her arm. Angrily she shook him off. "Kat, wait," he said quickly, not wanting her run away again, "I'm sorry." She smiled, and then said bitterly, "Yeah, me too. I'm sorry I ever met you." Now, getting a little desperate, he added, "I hate myself for doing this to you." Fighting back tears Kat turned to face him, "You know what I hate?," she asked him, "I hate everything about you! I hate that you took me out because you were paid! I hate that I opened up to you! I hate that I trusted you! I hate that I started to love you! Most of all I hate that I kissed you!," she said at last reaching up without thinking to do it again. Kat couldn't tell how long the kiss lasted. It could have been a minute or an hour. All she knew was that all too soon it was interrupted by someone loudly speaking into her ear. "All right, break it up," said Mr. Morgan. Then pointing to Patrick he said, "You have snuck out of my class more times than I can count. You do it again it's going to be a detention." Patrick nodded curtly and Kat blushed furiously but, both of them walked arm in arm back to class.
