It was dark. Not the kind of darkness that terrified. Nor was it the darkness that caused one to become depressed. It was a comforting darkness, one that would remind of nights resting on the floor of your best friends bedroom.
"Have you decided?" A voice asked, coming out of the darkness.
"Yeah, I really don't have much choice anymore do I?" Another voice replied, "No matter what my choice is I'm screwed over Mom."
"No, you have a choice my Son. There is always a choice."
"What if I can't choose. I don't know what to do."
"Maybe what you need is a change of scenery?"
"How so?"
"How is your English?"
"Pretty good" He replied, in near perfect English. "Spent some time at the American embassy for a while. Why?"
"I have a cousin who lives in America. Perhaps we could stay with him for a while so you can 'get away' from your problems."
"I dunno, Pop wouldn't like it."
"Your father has no say in the matter. I am the head of our family. I have been since you were a baby. He will stay here or risk being cast out. Plus he is afraid of Michael."
"Michael? Who's that?"
"My cousin."
"That's not a Japanese name."
"I never said he was Japanese. My mother was half Irish"
"WHAT!"
"Now Ranma, don't tell me you believe in the pure blood ramblings of your father? Besides, where did you think we got our red hair from?" Nodoka asked.
"No!" Ranma half yelled. He looked down at the floor for a moment, looking pensive. "But, I never thought about it really. Hey, it explains my temper at least."
"Well, have you made a decision?" She asked, cocking her head to one side. "I've had an open invitation for some time now. He also has some kids your age. Two boys."
"Well, it would be nice. What the hell, lets do it!" He exclaimed, jumping to his feet with a goofy grin on his face.
"Very well, I will call Michael in the morning. Sleep well my son." Nodoka finished, climbing down the ladder from the Tendo roof. She had much to do, and not much time to do it in.
Nabiki turned off the record and the microphone on the roof, the extra she had paid to install it was paying off.
"Well well Saotome. This little revelation should make me a tidy profit. Once I can get the address of your cousin at least." Turning around, she almost knocked the Saotome mother off her feet. "Auntie! How'd you get in here?"
"You learn much when you are the wife of a thief. Like how to get into a locked room, and how to feel when someone is watching you. We need to talk...."
Well, this is my first exploration into writing in quite a while. Wow, a page in less than 20 minutes. I haven't been able to do that in a while. Maybe it's a good sign. It's taken me 2 years to be able to write without the monotonous tomes of an accounting professor droning in the background. I've got more work on my site, which I really haven't touched in over a year. I'm hoping to get some work in on the site as well as revising the works I have on there.
Enjoy
