Shik looked up into the lights above her. She looked, and she remembered. The pain and suffering that came with being a hero. She began to hear voices around her. Crying people with comforting voices telling them it would be all right. Shik sighed. She knew these people and their presence was not comforting to her. Then it hit her. The pain her body had. Suddenly the light vanished. A head was above her peering down. A face she did not yet know.
"Welcome back, Shik. I am Headmaster Dumbledore. You are now in Britain and I need your help. I know this seems sudden but the matter is quite pressing. I know of your deeds and if you feel up to it I shall tell you what I need you to do and please, I ask you, don't try to pass this off to someone else, I've seen you in action and I'm sure it's you I need." He paused looking at her considering what she would do.
Shik slowly sat up and nodded full willing to his plea and story though her body still didn't like movement and would probably protest her every move for days or weeks to come. She still found it important that this man had saved her from death so that she could help him; the least she could do is listen.
He began his story, "sixteen years ago a man, who was on his rise of evil tried to kill a student of mine. He died instead but last year he came back to life and began his rise again. His first gaol will be my school where this student currently lives. I need someone who can resist magic spells of the most potent kind. Death, total control, pain, paralysation, etc and I understand that none of those bother you." He rose from his seat and continued, "I expect that he will have students working for him so I need you to become a student and if you wish you can pass information to me but your main job will be to protect my student Harry Potter." Dumbledore paused looking at her before continuing on with one last bit. " This man plans to attack all who stand in his way and that would be you. If you will help me I cannot offer protection for you but I can offer everything else."
He watched Shik's face contort with thought. Everyone at home thought she was dead. There was no place for her there and this man comes, saves her and then offers her everything she could want for a mere bodyguard job? Only one question bothered her before she made up her mind.
"What's the catch?" she asked, hardly believing that she could still talk even though it was painful.
" The catch is that no one has lasted a year to date. Those with death wishes and those who think they can last, no one could do it. This year seems to be different, somehow. A person immune to spells and yet can do magic is rare, almost impossible. So the catch, I suppose, is death."
Shik took the job. She had no where to turn, it was only right that she did something to repay the man who saved her, whatever her reason she accepted.
