I had a dream last night. It started like one of those blissful, perfect
dreams, where you wish you could stay forever. I can still remember it as
if it is still happening. I am walking through fields of wild flowers;
there are birds singing, and butterflies fluttering by me. In the distance
there are mountains, and the sun is just fading behind them. I bend down to
study the flowers, and I can actually feel their silken touch.
When I look back towards the sun, it isn't there, nor are the mountains. Darkness begins to come, quick and cunning. All around me is a deep purple cloak, and I find it strangely beautiful, until it becomes cold, and even the faint colour fades to blackness. As suddenly as the dark had come, I feel something smash against my back and front, knocking the wind from me. As I regain my breath, I realise that I'm in a cage! The bars press against me, steel-cold. Then an even colder voice speaks out from the darkness.
"I've caught my prize." At once I know who it is. I repeat what I told it before. "Your words are poison!" "Yes." It says. "And I want you to succumb to the poison.to enjoy what I do." I wince at the thought. I try to speak, but the words are caught tight in my throat, and his hands are wrapped around my neck, squeezing tight. My vision fails, and I feel dizzy, and I feel myself being thrown to the floor, and my body being hit over and over again. Then I wake up.
When I wake, my whole body aches. I strip my clothing, and walk to my looking glass. I gasp at my reflection. There are vertical red stripes down my front and back, from the bars. My face is bruised and my lip is split. There are strange bruises on my neck, like nails have dug into me. And blood runs down from between my thighs.
After that, I began to weep, and don't stop till morning. Then I hear feet past my door. They are hurrying, and I go to se why. From over the wild- lands come three mounted figures. Who could they be?
