Doubts
She stretched and yawned and lay her head back down on the pillow.
Reaching over she ran her fingers lightly over the pillow beside her And sighed deeply, savoring the warmth that was still left even after her partner had left the comfort of her arms to take a morning shower.
Content and sated, Samantha snuggled into the blankets and fell into a relaxed slumber, nestled in the spot next to where her lover had lain only moments before.
Martin emerged from the steamy shower and toweled off. Small droplets of moisture clinging to the ends of his hair, leaving wet trails down his newly dried skin, making tiny pools at the middle of his back and disappearing into the blue terrycloth towel he had wrapped around his lean hips.
Half expecting Samantha to be gone already, and fearing that she was still there, Martin tiptoed into the bedroom to find her still sleeping, laying on his side of the bed, a soft smile on her lips. His gaze lingered on the lips that he¹d kissed only hours before and he went to sit on the edge of the bed, careful not to awaken her.
Samantha's eyes opened as she felt the slight dip in the bed and she smiled as she saw Martin perched on the edge, facing her, but looking at a spot just above her head and looking as if he were ready to bolt at any moment.
She felt the slight movement as he was about to rise and she reached out to touch his hand.
"Martin..."
The light that she'd seen in his eyes dimmed a bit and he shrugged a sighed.
"I know what you're going to say..."
"But..."
Martin turned and faced the other direction.
"You're going to say...'Oh, I'm sorry Martin, but this will never work.' Or, 'We can never do this again.' and, 'if anyone finds out...'"
Samantha moved to press her chest against Martin's back and she wrapped her arms tightly around him, her lips pressed to the soft shell of his ear.
"Martin..."
"Yeah?" he sighed, sad blue eyes glancing sideways, expecting the inevitable.
Samantha smiled and said.
"What's for breakfast?"
The end.
