Ok people, this is when you find out I'm a total Max and Alec freak. This is only one of my many possibilities for how Max and Alec could get together. Hope you enjoy…
Only one way to describe itMax sat at the computer, searching site after site, file after file, for something, anything, on White and the 'familiars'. The room was dark, and although Max new there were plenty of people in the rooms nearby, she felt very much alone. Around midnight, Max heard the tiniest of noises by the door. She spun round to see a figure standing in the doorway, clearly amused that he'd given her a shock.
"Alec. What the hell are you doing here? I thought you went home hours ago." Alec shrugged, and said sarcastically,
"What can I say? I just couldn't stay away. I can't sleep while I know you're here working away." He shook his head in mock sympathy.
"Is that so?" Max purred. Knowing he was playing with her, she played along. "So you came to help me with my terrible loneliness then?" Alec came towards her as she stood up.
"I thought I might be able to… assist you, yes." Max leaned her head back as he approached, so that as he looked down, their faces were parallel.
"And how exactly will you do that?" she breathed, gazing up into his eyes. After that, neither of them spoke. They both began to lean in, expecting the other to give in and turn away. It was only when they were so close that Max could taste his breath on her lips that they both realised neither of them was going to pull back, and neither of them did.
The kiss was warm and strong and Max was shocked by the jolt of joy it sent coursing through her body. Alec's fingers were entwined in her hair and her arms were soon around his neck. Feeling Alec's heartbeat against her own, intoxicated by the scent that could only be described by his name, Max found herself wishing that this would never end. The only thought in her mind was wonder at this bliss she had discovered in the most unlikely of places.
As they parted slowly, Max held tight to Alec. They're faces were still almost touching, their eyes feverishly bright as they starred into each other's souls.
"Alec…" she gasped. He smoothed a strand of hair away from her face with a thumb, brushing her cheek. In truth, he'd come here because he was bored. He'd just wanted to talk, but loved to play with Max. But now… this was way past playful flirting. In Max's arms he'd just felt a joy flow through him that he had never expected to feel ever again. It had pried open the deepest recesses of his being and laid him bare to her. Max was one of the few women that Alec had genuinely never thought of that way, but now he could think of no one else.
"Max…" he replied. Carefully, more purposefully this time, their lips met again, and again, and they both found themselves tumbling into a world they had never considered, full of new ideas and feeling they had never known they felt.
The next morning, Max awoke on the floor, her head resting on Alec's shoulder and his arms around her. As she opened her eyes, the previous night replayed in her mind. She smiled. She kept thinking she should be confused about this, but found that she couldn't be. As the rising sun sent shafts of light through the small window, and she listened to the world waking up around her, Max was content to stay there, wrapped up in the scent, the warmth, the comfort that could only be described by that one word… Alec.
