Shooting Star

I know what she sees in you.

You are her shooting star
Streaking through the heavens
Her light against a black sky

She makes her wish
Pins her hopes and dreams to you
You will not fail her; how can you?
You are her star, her meteorite
You are all things bright and glorious

And short lived.

Surely, you must know your fate
To burn in the atmosphere
In giving her your light
You yourself are consumed.

I wonder
What makes you take that dive
To plunge into the atmosphere
Knowing the price
Knowing what will become of you

Whatever forces pull you
I cannot stop them
I just hope that when you reach the ground at last
There will still be enough left for me to pick up
