At the Riano Institute of Witchcraft For Girls, Alene Aylmer was imprisoned.

Not that anyone came right out and said it, but Alene knew. She was an orphan, had no home except for Riano institute, and even there she did not feel like she belonged. Alene was different, even among other witches. For one thing, she could fly, with no spell or anything. It just came naturally. And she didn't need a wand for magic. She didn't even need to recite any spells. She just thought about what she wanted, and it happened.

Alene hated being a prisoner. She wanted to be free. She wanted to fly. She wanted to be among her own kind.

That night, Alene slept fitfully. Her dreams were strange, frightening, and incomprehensible.

The first dream was actually quite nice. She dreamed about green valleys, clear skies, rushing water. There was a circle of seven jewels embedded in the ground on a large, flat, stone circle. There were seven girls holding hands standing around that circle.

Then the next dream was quite horrible, the green valleys were burnt, the clear skies a muddled mass of storm clouds, the water filled with debris. The jewels in the stone had been wrenched away, and the seven girls quarrelling, sending flashes of magic at each other.

The third dream was about a home, there were a lady and a man. The man said a spell, and with another flash of magic, the lady died. Then there was a baby boy. The man said the spell again but the baby didn't die. It just left a scar on his forehead. Then it was the same boy, but older. He was fighting against the evil man again. Then another big flash of light. Then it was the seven girls again, holding hands, no longer fighting. Then one of the girls turned. She had sky blue eyes, long blonde hair, and a long light blue dress. She looked exactly like-Alene! But then a magnificent voice boomed through her head.

"The Circle Of Power will fight Making chaos with all their might They will scatter And the weave of the world will go into tatters When hope is renewed, that fateful morn The Circle will be reborn They will be reunited And the world will go back to peace."

Alene woke up, feeling strangely elated. She tried to decipher her dream, but to avail. With a sigh, Alene went back to sleep.
